Hi Mike – you are correct, PNG is the best way to go, and having it with an opacity of about 15-30 percent gives the best results. It may take some time to get it looking the way you want but once done you don’t have to worry about it.
As for testing, Symbiostock does not test it for you and will just regenerate the thumbnails on its own. As this is all transparently automated, I wouldn’t worry too much. Just change it and see how it turns out. If you don’t like it, change it again, etc. As for size, just use the ‘percentage’ field to determine how much of the thumbnail’s real estate you want it to occupy. The default setting is usually pretty good.
December 3, 2017 at 4:24 pm #31751Hey Mike – that’s a good suggestion and we will look into it. The issue is that ‘drafts’ vs ‘published’ products is a very standard part of WordPress so it is assumed most people have a rudimentary understanding of this, but you are correct – many users may never have used WordPress before and such concepts may not be totally clear. Thank you very much for pointing it out.

The simple metadata reading can be an issue so usually keep this off unless it is not working.
Usually if you cannot read/write metadata either your images are not populated right or your hosting environment does not support the ‘exec’ function.

Symbiostock does not alter the category field for products – that is strictly WooCommerce and must be unique to your install.
However as per your original question – are you saying they are added to the categories in the backend? If so, then if it’s not appearing on the live site then this has something to do with the way you’ve setup the theme.

Has nothing to do with Symbiostock at all.
As for it taking a long time, that is also completely dependent on your server. Some take a minute to process one image while others take 3 seconds. If it is taking a long time on your machine it may not be the fastest machine for it.
As for images not showing up in the media folder, the way it works is the product is first added to the database then the image is processed and thumbnails created. This is all done automatically and you don’t have to do anything on your end – however there can sometimes be a delay between thumbnails showing up and the product showing up due to the server taking a long time to process media.
All in all your issues seem to be due to a low powered hosting account – most are not equipped to handle Symbiostock as easily as others.
November 18, 2017 at 3:12 am #31651Hi Stella – themes are the part of WordPress that determine how your content is displayed. If you look on the sidebar here, for example, you will see we provide a theme for Symbiostock called Symbiostock Express which a number of users use. There are thousands of themes out there, some good, some not, some easy to use, some extremely complex. Express tries to find a middle ground and we have documentation on setting it up.

Yes that is correct – Symbiostock Pro is not GPL and therefore when you download a version it can only be used on one site. But as it is free, you can order another one and you will get another license to use on a second site without cost.
The GPL is a license that many open-source software use. Symbiostock Pro and all the other plugins we have are not GPL. Symbiostock Express is.
WordPress is also GPL and some plugins for it are and some are not. Some developers are not clear about these distinctions to discourage users from pirating their software.
November 16, 2017 at 2:50 am #31631Hi there – Slider Revolution does not require activation to operate at all – you can optionally activate it to get more templates and what not, but it is fully functional without activation. If the slider is not operating it must be a technical issue. Have you followed the instructions in the documentation?
