Lets see how we do so far. I’ve installed one big tank of a spam system — its amazing. I thought I saw a way to bookmark posts…I’ll come back to this depending on how stuff goes.
December 27, 2013 at 8:00 pm #7860I thought I had posted a reply… Great work ! I love the buffalo closeup. Not long ago I got close up to a fence to see a buffalo and it tried to charge me. Scared the heck out of my 5 year old!
Have you discovered the front-page generator yet?
December 27, 2013 at 7:21 pm #7617I’ll keep that in mind with the new version. — I’m thinking of doing some updates to the present vrsn as well.
December 27, 2013 at 6:33 pm #7791To answer a few questions:
The converter may have missed a few posts. I might be able to get them back, in the meantime, we’ll just keep moving forward. There will be quite a few reasons to use the board in the near future anyway.
The boards can now be seen by logged out people.
Spam control is LOCKED DOWN.
1 – Several spam system will block them immediately on arriving on site due to 8 or so filters set up. (Its amazing)
2 – If they pass that, they have to get through captcha.
3 – If they pass that, they enter into “New User Status”, with limited posting.
4 – Even with all considered, they can still be blocked if obvious spammers, and that submits their IP to spam recognition databases.December 27, 2013 at 8:50 am #7782@jsnover wrote:
There are several spam users who registered a few hours back. I can see them but I either can’t ban them or I don’t know how to with the new forum
They haven’t posted yet, but it’s only a matter of time before they do. If there is a setting that lets moderators ban users that you need to enable Leo, can we try to get that working now in case there are more spammers?
I’m still getting used to things, but it appears you have the ability to moderate posts – I am still looking into how user management is delegated. It appears the next level up is “administrator” but then your talking full control of the site. Still checking…
I REALLY have to get back to developing … this forum cutsie stuff is not productive!
December 27, 2013 at 7:35 am #7778I’m sure it must be available — let me give it a quick look.

I don’t think that is a good direction for you. You should concentrate on how to get others to help develop Symbiostock.
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
You need to stop giving everyone fish. The sooner you teach everyone how to fish, the sooner you will be free to do other things.
I see where your coming from – however this is like teaching people calculus directly after addition and subtraction in 1st grade.
This direction I’m taking is going to solve virtually every issue, especially getting new developers.
For instance, instead of Symbiostock having its own cart, its going to use wp-ecommerce, and the upload and image creation process will automatically generate product pages. The advantage here is that you can track sales, use different payment gateways, upgrade, offer video, etc, and best of all, not bother me with bugs 😀 <— thats part a joke.
Rewriting the system to create a codex, translation: Online function documention will be automatically generated, allowing genuine developers to hit the ground running.
Basically, in a nutshell, is that Symbiostock will be about stock, not just images…and simply be a plugin that merges specialized technologies, instead of reinventing each one.
Already my research in this is showing me a way to use WordPress’s uploader to upload to specific folders (also protected) which is superior to the one I’m using already, and support and upgrades are WORDPRESS based, not Symbiostock.
And I’m going to design this in such a way that interdependence between technologies is flexible, meaning its hard to break.
Also the transition will be easy – I’m going to make a converter plugin that will automatically create old Symbiostock image pages to genuine wp-ecommerce pages, without sacrificing any features at all.
Bad idea? Its already appearing to be simpler as well.
November 18, 2013 at 6:27 am #7735Did you manually upload it? or are you talking about the automatic update?

Seems that is better to wait untill you’ll fix these issues with the licences Leo before to create other licences in the new Licence area 🙂
Part of the major problem on the complaint list was licenses being editable. That was a solution. Anyway, still working on things.
November 18, 2013 at 1:43 am #7526Can you set me up as an admin on your site (leo at symbiostock.com)

You mean if you join PE? If I’m not mistaken you’ll find your own images (fetched from Symbio and rewatermarked) within 48 hours or so from signup (assuming you sign up on a weekday)
no, since PE is listing all the major agencies, our images from those agencies should show up in a search if we don’t have our sym site submitted. (if we join PE then our images should override any other listings of our images) this was from the buyer search screen…
but I was never able to find any non-corbis images on any search I did
has anyone found their images – sym or agency – in a PE search yet? when this was first released they had said only corbis images would be listed during the ‘beta’
Who’s image is this? I can’t find where it links back to their site.

November 17, 2013 at 6:50 am #7669Not really…maybe some minor ones. This license thing was fairly in-depth, creating a new custom post type dedicated to it, making it integrate properly with symbio.
November 17, 2013 at 4:59 am #7666If you create two more via the license page maker, they should show. Are you saying their not?
Also next on the agenda is to make a confirmation setup that allows you only to apply specific values to sets of images, so that should help your next problem.
November 17, 2013 at 3:39 am #7663Its still being worked on. I released some initial changes so instead of one big disaster we’d just have a small mess…
Ok, granted there’s more behind my methods…but really I’m just making sure I don’t break anyone’s licenses.
If I released a whole new system that left tons of images without licenses, guess what… so I’m trickling it in carefully without altering anything.
