re etsy — I tested it over a year ago — it’s a nice site, with friendly people, but I sold nothing in several months of trying — I used single images & collections that sold well on ebay back in the time they allowed digital products
I also looked at bonanza, but that was horrible – ZERO views after a month or more, even using their ‘enhanced’ listings options.
so for the moment, the only sites I know that produce at least some results are those like zazzle (a pain to set up since you have to set up each image separately) and ffa, etc
April 24, 2015 at 12:39 pm #22740Our plans for the search feature revolve around ‘Symzio’. We will focus on this as the next phase of the project once Symbiostock is released. The logo for the new search engine is visible on the front page of Symbiostock.org. The new version does not produce that data, but we will see if it is necessary for future versions. Due to incompatibility between databases, the legacy sites will not be included in Symzio. It is going to be directly plugged into the new Symbiostock and will require advanced features that are programmed directly into the plugin.
=====================================
the whole POINT of the XML and CSV files for symbiocard, images and keywords was that there was no need for databases to interact — without these files how will you gather & process info from dozens of different sites & hubs?? this is a basic design question, not something to be put off until later. the basic philosophy of symbiostock was to make the data available for anyone with ideas on how to use, present and interpret it; without that flexibility and openness it will be a LONG time before any new ‘version’ attracts the 150+ sites that we already had; seems a pity to throw away 2 years worth of progress for a vague promise of better things to come
perhaps you should take a path like leo’s grfx and come up with a completely different name for the project, since the new version appears to be unrecognizable as ‘symbiostock’
April 24, 2015 at 12:04 pm #22738you didn’t actually ADDRESS any of the concerns mentioned – you are claiming the unilateral rights to
symbiostock’ and at the same time requiring users to agree IN ADVANCE to any changes in terms you may decide to add later — that doesn’t fly.
most importantly, you CANNOT claim a trademark to a mark that has been in prior use for 2 YEARS before you appeared on the scene
all we hear is ‘trust me’ but there is no record to back this up — if your goal truly is to guarantee the rights of legacy users, that needs to be stated as a clear exception to your claimed right to change anything you want at any time – at the very least, existing sites should be grandfathered to use the term symbiostock as they have been doing for 2 years with NO possibility you may decide to revoke that at a later date. your posts are disingenuous since you claim to want to play nice, but your EULA & trademark agreements are ridiculously restrictive and dangerous
April 24, 2015 at 5:00 am #22725During the beta session I will work with contributors to figure out the best way of achieving this, but rest assured we’ll figure out a way to automatically forward your old URLs to the new ones retaining full link juice. Also, the new Symbiostock, being an isolated plugin, will allow you to go mad with SEO on your new site. You can install Yoast SEO, or any other flavor you want and manage your pages that way. All in all, the point is that it will involve some work, but most of the methods are automated and work to alter files on a mass basis so you won’t have to individually edit much.
many of us have yoast installed an have done extensive editing to optimize SEO on an image by image basis — does this data disappear in the migration?
However, as the previous Symbiostock was not coded by me, and it was bundled as a plugin/theme combo meant to run both in the back and front end, it is recommended that if you are able to, you install the new Symbiostock on a fresh WordPress install. As WooCommerce is a complete, full and extensive ecommerce system, it may conflict with the old version if both are live at the same time..
also, regarding where these versions will live — I have many external links and google indexing that point to my symbio site at http://cascoly-images.com/pix so I don’t see that I can delete that site anytime soon. So where would I put the new system & how will they get along? would I be able to install a new wp in say http://cascoly-images.com/pix2 and have both sites running??
April 24, 2015 at 4:44 am #22724please add me to the betatesters
will we be able to test transfer of our existing images?
July 20, 2014 at 6:13 pm #11256please post here when you launch your site
June 29, 2014 at 5:29 pm #11464I had same result — my 3.3.4 version sends contact7 forms as expected; the site at 3.3.8 form never arrives though it says it did
also, I need to urge once more that the version numbering be changed — these little changes run up the major version number and are scaring people — the change from 3.1to 3.2 should have had significant changes, not just some minor tweaks. instead the 3rd number should just increase to 10, 11, etc that’as the industry standard and when people see v 1 go to 2.1.1 then soon after 3.01 and up to 3.3 it gives a poor impression of the stability of the program
as it stands now, people have no idea whether they should install a new versio0n, and whether the changes are substantial or cosmetic
June 25, 2014 at 9:47 pm #3943http://turkey.symbiostock-network.com is my new site concentrating on Turkey – only a few dozen images so far, but thousands more to cull & caption
June 24, 2014 at 11:19 pm #11461sure send away! – the more that know about it and spread the word, the better chance i’ll be able to proceed

You use ASP correct? One way or another I can just set it up for you in a simple upgrade (I’ll send you the version before I release it)
Let me know which language you use and specifically how you intend to show it in the footer. If the problem is as simple as passing ASP a variable, I suppose I could do that much and the rest would be however you wished to utilize it.
yes, mostly asp — I just need the image name, so however it can be passed is appreciated
as a separate issue, I’d like to find a simple plugin that doesn’t require a lot of background support
June 20, 2014 at 11:55 pm #3311I’ve always been annoyed by agencies that restrict titls or descs — esp’ly when it means WE have to do extra work to edit down to what they want (happens often with editorials – SS requires a lot of extraneous junk, so captions get longer than other sites qant)
simple solution is just to truncate to whatever the site wants (not CHECKING for this sort of problem is a notorious way that malware et al gain access to systems!!!!)
June 20, 2014 at 11:51 pm #3942Welcome!
I’ve added you to the global search at http://symbiostock-search.comTo help you find network partners, you can find other sites by specialty, focus or promoted keywords at
http://cascoly.com/symbio/list.asp?list=72In addition, any site that adds http://cascoly-images.com/pix to their network will receive active links in reports such as http://cascoly.com/symbio/list.asp?list=71
Also, be sure to edit your profile so that your site appears as part of your signature, making it easy for anyone reading the forum to get to your site

I might be confused as to what you need. You simply need a box with a url on it which can be docked in the widget area? This is perhaps 30 minutes of work (or less) to make a plugin which can do this. If you need it for your own projects let me know and I’ll get that out to you today.
I need to be able to reference the current image url in text — normally I’d get it as a global variable, but not sure how wp handles passing variables — I thought there’d be a variable available, but if it takes a plugin that would be ok, too
(is there a template or doc on making a simple plugin? the examples I’ve seen are a lot more complicated)
my text widget is going to just create a link at the bottom of the page like this:
I need to know XXX which is the image name to pass to the external page that will get the details for whatever I’m selling

So far I’ve been extending Symbiostock to accomodate any downloadable products. I haven’t yet considered making physical deliverables. It might be smart to integrate either cafepress or zazzle (last I knew those two companies specialized in this) and take advantage of any API’s they have to integrate their store online. Last I knew that was possible.
those were the 2 I was going to look at — just wanted to check I wasn’t duplicating anything. if I get this working it can be an addition or plugin for sym
meanwhile — were you able to find a way to use the current image url in a text widget on the image page? (so I can send the image name to an external function)
June 18, 2014 at 4:07 pm #11213I’ve been experimenting with ways of offering external products created from images, such as magnets, business cards, prints, etc — will all these be available as options or user-created products in the new sym?
one audience I’m looking at is people who don’t wan t to sell publicly, but want an easy way to have friends & family order prints, etc. for these people, there might not be any pricing for downloads. their images would be private and not part of the network
