we stuff squabblers for tx-giving dinner
November 6, 2013 at 12:35 am #6834I’ve got over 1500 spam registers now, but since I turned off commenting, it doesn’t really matter
November 5, 2013 at 10:32 pm #6760browsers & programs like wp, forums, photoshop et al don’t always clear memory when files or images are closed, so you can get slowdowns because your computer’s shifting between fast RAM and slower HD
depending on your comfort level:
in windows & IE, run the task manager (ctl-alt-del)) and check ‘performance’ to see how much memory is being used. also check under ‘processes’ to see how many copies of iexplore.exe*32 are running & how big they are.
if this happens, just close all browser windows and restart the browser; then, if ‘applications’ shows no browser sessions open, and ‘processes’ does show some, click on those copies of iexplore.exe*32 and ‘end process’November 5, 2013 at 9:56 pm #6923it IS a bit confusing, especially if you don’t assign a preview when you first set up the collection, but once you’ve done it, it’s pretty smooth…
… upload & publish your images
… create a composite image for your title, (decide on one of your images as the title)
eg, http://cascoly-images.com/pix/image/orgosolo-murals-collection/
be sure to upl & publish this image, too… in the batch editor, search for the images you want “eg” search for ‘orgosolo’, click to select all, then deselect any that don’t fit
… click on collections and create your new collection, then click to add the selected images to the collection
… when back at the display of selected images, click on the preview image you’ve decided on, set pricing for various sizes, and go to the bottom of the popup and set it as the preview for the collection.; save
… (optional) click on the image number of the popup image to get the regular image page to edit — change the name of the image to something like ‘orgosolo-image-collection’ and add appropriate info the the description, SEO, etcsome folks have a special category of ‘Collections’, but I include them under the appropriate descriptive category. then I have a separate menu item on my home page that shows all collections:
http://cascoly-images.com/pix/image-collections-cascoly/
================
later, as you process images, you can add them to the collection on the main edit screen when you publish – VERY handy======================
@christine – no additional editing to individual images necessary; however, I have put a suggestion in the q that would automatically add a link to the collection from each individual image — eg “This image is part of collection X”===================
For anyone still in doubt about making their own collections, contact me and we can work something out

I’ve been traveling and exploring for over 40 years. Over the last 30 years, I’ve run my own software, photo and travel businesses. Travel links my many interests and passions: I am an avid cook, constantly expanding my spice collection and recipes through travel. My history interests and readings have exploded as I constantly discover new areas and eras. I’ve photographed many lands, from Antarctica to Zambia, including Nepal, Iran, Syria, Morocco, Russia and Central Asia, Egypt, Turkey, India, Burma, China and Europe. My images range from Alaska and Canada through the US and Mexico to Peru, Chile and Argentina. But there are always new places to see or old favorites to revisit. My favorite images are candids of people in their everyday life. These are the reasons I do photography, so professional and leisure activities merge – the ability to also sell images means I can finance that next trip!
… feel free to edit

I leave it at this:

(Reverend Martin Niemoeller)If you are going to start with site names, then what and who will be next? I’m answering on general principle not my personal concerns.
can’t post that quote too many times…..
not to mention, you said from the start this is a TEST site that no one in the active areas will ever see….
November 4, 2013 at 4:12 am #6278i’m getting paranoid!
btw — you can see anyone’s promoted keywords at http://cascoly.com/symbio/list.asp?list=31
my promoted keywords are fairly generic – like ‘Oregon’, since I have so many different areas to cover

I would have thought it difficult (and a bit timeconsuming) to gather images and ideas around a topic for the daily posts. Do you think we could create a calendar of people who are willing to post and they do a post on their day. If we have 30 contributors, for instance, I could always post on the 1st of each month and write a short piece about a new image and how/why I took it.
Steve
if we come up with a list of topics I can fairly easily collect relevant images from sym sites and put them on a page from which they can either be linked or copied
any ideas for initial topics?
November 3, 2013 at 8:32 am #5462i’m getting those same process problems with eps/jpg pairs — they’re 2-6Mb each. using ftp, since the online uploader is gone with wp 3.7.1
has been there from 2.8.7 onward
from process images I can process ONE pair at a time
but whenever I try more, or choose all, it fails – I get ‘Process Images’ on the screen and nothing happens
eventually, when I go to ‘all images’ it’s sorta processed one image — but there’s no preview, and no image appears when I try to edit

Probably not the same error but I just installed the latest version and child theme and I’m trying to upload my first image. It said (first try) IO Error 2038. Second try I got a green check mark. Both times I went to process and just saw icons and no image that I uploaded.
It’s vanished?
fire-pit-brush-2013.jpg (everything lower case which is what I do for all files)
Is there some simple issue that I’m missing because I’m new. This is a straight jpg, not a vector upload like Ron’s problem.
Is that what it’s supposed to look like?
ftp works fine. I did my first test file and it appeared perfectly.
have you looked in ‘all images’? that’s where it should appear after processing

All network results are limited to 15, and regular network is limited to 10. If you have used all 10 network slots, 5 sites from extended network can appear. If you have only one site networked, up to 14 from extended network can be displayed. Every time no more than 15 🙂
have you checked the results reported above when searching on scenicoregon.com? the results from my site don’t show up under my site name, but under the sym…info banner
also, when I search for ‘oregon’ on my site, I get no other network results, even though scenicoregon is in my network

Regarding content:
We should define our target audience so we’re consistent in the direction of our posts.
Are we targeting only potential buyers or as a secondary audience will we occasionally have posts to attract other experienced stock artists that want to join Symbiostock? What about the occasional post about copyright to address the casual FB fan that may stumble on our page because they like the images?i’d like to aim for both buyers and artists — there are a lot of photographers on facebook who don’t use MSG

What type of posts?
Interviews with Symbiostock members?
Promote a variety of images on a theme? Seasonal, on trend with news events (elections, economy, healthcare)
Perhaps a call-to-action asking designers to come back and show us how they used purchased images from a Symbiostock artist.one first item should be a short discussion with links to the symbiostock websites
I’ve got a number of blog posts centered at http://cascoly-images.com/pix/sell-your-photography/ that can be used at any time
for the theme pages – the http://symbiostock-search.com results pages can be reformatted to either be posted on facebook as a table, or posted elsewhere and linked from fb

I know I am contrary but I do not think giving images away gains anything other than possibly a lost sale if someone really wants the image but is prepared to settle for a smaller size and get it free
I have offered free image to particular people for backlinks/promotional purposes but not a free for all for anyone
Shall I stay off this thread, I seem to be being a bit negative today 😀
didn’t take your response as negative — but just want to repeat that what will be offered are only thumbnails, with direct links to your site for the full image (something that we’re not selling, and that anyone can capture anyway without using the link)
I use these links already on my non-sym pages, eg http://cascoly.com/trav/tours/2014-turkey.asp
in the search, results, images from those opting in will have an extra free offer tag that will take them to a page with the html code to cut and paste, so we’ll be able to track the ip of those making the requests. results will be made available to the site owner
you can opt out at any time and I just need to change a flag in the database to remove the freebie link
@jsnover – I’ve added you to the list of participants
November 2, 2013 at 4:31 pm #3440i’ll help with any facebook effort
in addition, I’ve mentioned before the idea of using free thumbnails as promotional items – let anyone copy the thumbnail/link to use on their site. they can actually do this anyway, but we can thenget ;people to ou sites looking for free small images and upsell to blogger or larger sized images. the advantage here is that people following these links will actually e looking for images, rather than just informational content
ionce several people have joined in, I can add flags to the global http://symbiostock-seach.com. users would get an html snippet they can cut & paste, with a message such as “This free image provided by XXXX” and of course, a direct link
ifnothing else, it will get your images more backlinks, and start to push against themicros in SEO results
November 2, 2013 at 6:44 am #3419impressions or visits aren’t necessarily the best indicators… our problem as image sellers is attracting people who are interested in buying pictures, but most of the seo work focuses on keywords, etc that people would also use when trying to find information
google’s trying to make searches more relevant, so that may mean fewer impressions — eg, I can see that the searches most people are doing are more likely looking to BUY spices, etc, rather than looking for images of someone buying spices.
bottom line is impressions don’t matter as long as you’re making sales
