A photo is always OK for an editorial license (assuming that you took it from a public place). However, with the logos there, it would have to be editorial because the ultimate user of the photo doesn’t have permission from the owner of the logo/truck to use their name. Remember that we, as photographers, don’t control the final use of a photo and so the “editorial use” warning is our way of advising the final user that there are potential issues in using this image in certain ways. They can ignore that warning if they want but it does give us some protection.

I wrote an article trying to explain all this:

    Hi Kevin

I also read it and wasn’t that clear. But to be clear about one thing, this plugin is designed for supporting the licensing of digital photos and videos (the stock world) and it works fine at doing that. Trying to shoe horn it to do another function could work, but it isn’t going to be a supported use.

If you do resolve it – please post the details. I haven’t done this yet.

    Hi Crystal

I’m assuming you have bought and installed the Symbiostock express theme? That is different (and in addition) to the Symbiostock plugin.

Your buyer can change the dpi to whatever they want once they download the pixel size they want. You don’t have to set a dpi at all – just give them options for pixel size and the buyer does the rest. DPI only means anything when you convert the file to a physical format (which could be a screen or could be a print), but that conversion and output is done by your buyer, not by you.

    Hi Mickael

As Robin said, resolution does not mean anything at all in a digital file. so a 4000 x 4000 pixel file is exactly the same regardless of what dpi you set. All that might change is when you open it in some applications, the image would show as a different size on the screen, but if you made it 100%, it would be the same image. In addition, you don’t want to sell a 4000 pixel image for web usage – that is what the 800 and small sizes are for.

So this isn’t a Symbiostock thing – it is just that a digital file is just a set of pixels, nothing else.

    Hi Milan

No – the question of model and property releases is totally up to you. You are responsible for either having them, or marking the image as editorial if you want to sell in that category. No-one is going to be checking, so make sure you are comfortable with what you are doing! There are some check boxes in the image edit area where you can check if model releases and property releases are available – like this one:

I often mention it in the description as well.

Ahh – that could be the problem – you need to be on the earlier version of WooCommerce (before the 2.5 release.) There is a post on this forum about the specific release but the plugin is not certified yet to the latest WooCommerce release.

I’m with InMotion Hosting, with their VPS package. I wrote about the reasons in this blog post:

Great images! Do you have these on other stock agencies or just on your own site?

If I understand the question, when you look at Symbiostock:Media in the admin area, there is a column with a star icon at the top. Clicking one of those stars for an image turns it into a featured product and hence into that area on the home page.

And me – I upgraded to the .15 release yesterday. Is it showing as a different color as though there is an update but it isn’t showing it? Mine did that for a while yesterday.

    Hi Adrian

I think you might be asking a different question to the one George answered. If you mean how to you add that sliding category bar in the demo site, you do that in the Home Layout section of Symbiostock Express in an area called Home Custom Carousel settings. You can add a Slide there, upload a square image, but the key thing is then to put the URL of the category in the last box in that section. In my case, the category would be:

    http://www.backyardstockphotos.com/product-category/cats/

When you assign photos to categories, WordPress creates a URL like this with the category name as the last part of the URL.

    That should work.
