    Here are the explanations of my customer

    Ronald Semmick,

    Thank you very much for your reply and for offering a discount on your print image.

    I am having difficulty using the password login to purchase these via your website.

    Thanks,

    Hi Ronald,

    I wasn’t able to login. It would not accept the password provided. I have requested a new password and will try that as soon I receive it.

    Thank you,

    Please send confirmation email.

    This is the third email that takes me back to the same login an request for a reset. The original password sent to me does not work. It is rejected and I cannot access the site to purchase photos. Please advise or correct this problem.

    This password is repeatedly rejected and the reset process does not lead to a password. I cannot login to the site. Please help.

    This is contrary to what I experienced on Ron’s site when asking for a reset of the password. I instantly got the e-mail with the link to reset, clicked on it, was taken to a password reset screen on Ron’s site, entered my new password and confirmed it, processed the request and was taken to Ron’s site. Logged out, and logged back in successfully with my chosen password.

    Could it be a problem with the buyer’s cookie settings that was blocking some of the process?

    I did some further testing on Ron’s site and posted my results over in Leo’s thread with the poll.

    If my registration fails for some reason (such as using an e-mail address that was already used or registrant’s browser not allowing cookies) it takes me to the Error Message registration screen. When you try to use that screen it is sending the auto-generated password but WP doesn’t recognize it when you try to log in. WP also did not capture the user-chosen password when it sent them to the error screen so neither password is working. David did extensive testing on his site too and found problems relating to this secondary registration screen that you get with registration errors.

    Ron – if you want to try some further testing, please go to your Users screen and try these two options:
    1.) Go to my Karen Testing2 profile. There is an option to change the password. Create a new password for me and e-mail that to me.
    2.) Go to my Karen Testing3 profile. Delete that user and let me know it’s been deleted and to try re-registering again.

    This may help determine a course of action that will give an immediate solution for a buyer with registration issues while a permanent fix is found. If this works you can immediately respond to the buyer with a new password, or let them know you’ve cleared their profile and they should try registering again but to make sure their browser allows cookies.

    Edited to add: On my Karen Testing2 profile I selected the option to Reset Password. I followed the link in the e-mail which took me to a screen to enter a new password. Entered the password and it logged me into my profile page on Ron’s site where I could change the password again, add to my user profile, etc. In the upper left was the link to Ron’s page.

    I’m starting to suspect that two issues are at play here – one with the secondary registration screen you get if there are problems with the initial registration, and a second, perhaps cookie related, that is messing with the passwords and may have caused problems with Ron’s buyer if his cookie security was blocking passwords.

    I did some further testing, using my registration on Ron’s site, and had the same experience David related.

    Initial registration worked fine yesterday and I was able to log in again today with no problem.

    Tried registering as a new user with the same e-mail address and got the error message screen. This screen does not give you the option to choose a password.

    Entered an alternate e-mail address on the small screen and was logged in Ron’s site. Also received an e-mail with auto-generated password. When I logged out and then logged back in I could not get in with either my chosen password or the auto-generated password.

    Seems like the Error registration screen is causing the problem. The user and e-mail address are captured but the auto-generated passwords are not recognized and the chosen one was not registered either.

    Ron, I also don’t understand why you say your site is broken. You didn’t seem to acknowledge that I was able to register on your site and received an email with my chosen password. Everything worked fine.

    You’ve provided no information about the versions of WP, Symbiostock, etc that were involved, just a string of useless emails between you and the user, making it hard for anyone to help troubleshoot or replicated the problem your buyer experienced .

    One glitch does not mean the sky is falling. It means that you, as the webmaster of your site, need to take some steps to fix it. A quick solution you could have tried for your buyer was to go into his registered account and give him a password. You have the ability to change them. Just do that and email him a password to use. That may have avoided the whole problem for that buyer. The longer term solution is to reach out to the forum with details of your set up such as system, browser, versions of WP and Symbiostock, plugins, etc. lots of people, including Leo, are here to help but they need info to work out the cause before they can help you implement a solution.

    I did some testing and these are my results:

    On my site, running 3.3.4, Firefox browser, PC Windows 7

    Registered with a test account. On the registration screen is the “*a password will be mailed to you” message.
    Registered and was taken to the home page with a message saying Registration was Successful – your cart area is here.
    Received e-mail about 6 minutes later with the welcome letter (sent to my gmail account) with my chosen password.

    Registered on Semmickphoto.com with a test account.
    Exact same results – successful registration, took me to the home page with the same message and link to cart page
    Received e-mail with my chosen password about 5 minutes or less later.

    Ron – feel free to delete my test account – Karen Testing

    On a side note, I believe we have the ability as admins on our own site to go to the user and create a new password for them if they are getting an auto-generated account that is not working. Just go to edit their profile and give them a new password. This might have been a solution for the problem your buyer was having with the auto-generated passwords.

    I could not find any way to get to the manually get to my Profile page when logged in as a Subscriber if I wanted to change my password, but somehow ended up there by default one time, on the user’s profile page.

    It seems like whatever page you were on when you logged out of an account is where it takes you back to. I had been looking at the User Profiles in my own administrator account, logged out, then logged back in as my Test Subscriber account and it took me to that profile page, subscriber version.

    Is there any way to link to that as a subscriber, to offer them a way to change passwords if they want to?

    That was a much easier way than I used. I have ‘pages’ widgets and spent ages working out which pages to exclude 🙂

    And that pretty much represents my entire coding skills 😀 Somewhere I saw similar code for a link and realized I could alter it for my footer links. I don’t have that locked into my brain’s knowledge base yet so I have to go back and look at my footer if I want to remember how to make links.

    On the left side of the dashboard, under APPEARANCE > WIDGETS… In the Widgets module you’ll see the option for Footer with three sections, 1/3, 2/3, 3/3. Add one of the predefined widgets or add a Text Box widget to the footer section and add text to create your own.

    This is the code I put in mine for links:

    About
    Image Categories
    Contact
    Licenses
    FAQ
    Blog

    The portion above that reads: replace this with your link should have the alpha-numeric short-link for the page you want to link to. It will look like this:
    Blog

    To get the short-link for a page, go to PAGES > ALL PAGES and then choose Edit for the page you want to link to. Under the title is a button that says Get Short-Link. Click on that and it will give you the short link.

    Editing to add: the word between > < is what will be shown in your menu.

    For whatever it’s worth, I’m not seeing a throttling problem on my site. 3.91 seconds over the last 24 hours is all I show when I checked. Two incidents, each less than 2 seconds in duration.

    I’m not sure why I might be escaping the problem. Analytics are turned on in my site.

    Symbiostock 3.3.3
    Child theme 0.1.0
    Symbiostock Site Map 1.1.3
    Symbiostock Professional 1.5.2
    Along with several of the standard plugins

    I think the only place it would be visible to others if in the RSS feed if you change your settings to “summary” mode. This is from the WP Codex: It replaces the full content in RSS feeds when the option to display summaries is selected in Dashboard › Settings › Reading.

    I checked mine and it has Full Content checked. I don’t recall ever changing that so it’s probably the default.

    There are a few places for descriptions. If you view the “All Images” master list you probably have a Description field in addition to others (the fields that show can be turned on and off in the Screen Options at the top right of this portion of the dashboard)

    If you go into the full Edit mode for your image, that description is pulling from the Excerpt field way down at the bottom of the page. I believe it’s reading from your original description from your upload. You may have to click on the little triangle to show the text box you can edit. This is the text you need to change if you change the description in your All Images view.

    What are you using for your Home Page template? I think that is a permanent feature of the Home Page Generated template unless you’re willing to venture into the PHP files to change the coding but you then need to do that with every upgrade.

    I have a test page I’ve been playing with and just used the “Home Page” template and that is more versatile but takes more manual formatting and adding widgets.

    If you or anyone else needs a refresher on how to find out what page template you’re using you need to got to the PAGES tab on the right side of your WP dashboard and select All Pages. When you hover over the page you want to view you’ll see the Edit and Quick Edit options. Select the Quick Edit option and will be a drop-down menu option for the page template.

    Michele, which widget and section control the second area you have circled? I wanted to change that on my site and I think it is hard coded in there for one or more of the home page templates so I could not get rid of it with widget changes.

    Go to the board index and on the right side is the list of resources with the link to download. Or is it not working? I didn’t test it.

    OK, all files inside that folder deleted.

    Search results:

    1. Network disabled
    “wood” -> 7s

    2. Network enabled, only http://ajotte.com added
    “river” -> 17s

    3. Network enabled, only http://www.karensarragaphotography.com added
    “animal” -> 27s
    (Karen’s site didn’t even get listed with search results but 9 other sites did)

    4. Network enabled, http://easybuyphotos.com and http://www.flashstockphoto.com added
    “tree” -> 19s

    5 Network enabled, all partners deleted
    “fruit” -> 23s

    6. Network disabled
    “sunrise” -> 7s

    Andre, that wasn’t an error. I don’t have any animals on my site so it makes sense that nothing was returned. I have mostly food or objects so the “fruit” search would have shown results.
