I only use it to write a standard template to all my files. I wrote some bat files (took me nearly two days to research and to get the commands right) that erase useless data and to write in my site/©/name/etc. into all the obvious places programs read.

This would be used in multi-site environments. But at this time I can’t get PHP to interact with it, so I’m not sure we’ll be able to keep it.
How it plays with PHP I don’t know but there are websites invoking it via command lines. I can’t think of any sites offhand, though. What exactly are you trying to get it to do?

Just another update!
I’ve been struggling with a utility called “exiftool” which is meant to be used on multi-site version, so things have slowed down. Overall though there have not been many hurdles and things are going along nicely. ….
Exif tool is useful and priceless, but I do wish it had a proper front end designed. I set my needs to bat files and I just run them on my images for the web. I’ve already forgotten the command line code LOL! I’d have to go read it all up once again.

May 16, 2014 at 11:48 am #10915I get even more on my JoRodrigues.com. It’s like 3 or 4 per day on some days. The one nitwit just kept trying after the ban ran out, or logged off and back on with a different IP. Finally I just banned the whole IP range from there. I must remember to go unban it in a week or so hehe.
I think this is a new WordPress issue. Most twits stop trying when they get an auto ban for 24 hours. My system mentioned above is working well for me so far. They ALL try ‘admin’ or ‘Admin’ first and that is an auto IP ban for 24 hours. Make sure you add in both lowercase and uppercase versions.

What I don’t like about the theme is that you cannot set the size of the previews. I’m of the opinion that I wouldn’t buy an image I cannot view properly. 590×391 is tiny. Yes I know everyone is ‘scared to death’ that some one is going to steal your images. I’m not that easily frightened and it would be great to provide a way to set your own image preview size.
….Joone approach is to show the image, with a transparent gif overlay:
http://cascoly.com/showjpg.asp?jpg=..maps/nypl-1404019-sample.jpg&caption=Sample of full sized mapif you rightclick to save you end up with nothing
of course some people can still find a way to capture the image, but if you’re not overly concerned, this would be a good option
I’d been considering a plugin that would do this for any image, but will wait to see what the new sym brings us
There are many easy ways to take photos from a website. I would always suggest a watermark regardless, but I think we need control over what size photo previews are. I would imagine it would have to be fixed sizes like small, medium, or large because of the issues with the image page template.

May 6, 2014 at 2:32 pm #11061I’ve mostly just been reading these days. Seems like so much has changed and I think a lot of people now just take a back seat. Anyway, here are some of my thoughts.
I’d hate to think that things are just going to be removed because no one speaks up — or remembers about them until it is too late. As mentioned on another thread, a list as to what will be removed is good so we can speak up about it before hand.

I can’t think of anything else so far so I’m going back to reading ….

I certainly appreciate the thought! But right now I’m working on an income solution that will be running here on the islands, and that is what I hoped to have fund Symbiostock’s growth.
There is much I could say, but I’ll save it for another time.

One other approach I was going to try would be an immediate rebate of x% on purchases over $X
I think that is an even better idea. Strike while the purse strings are opening!

April 30, 2014 at 11:54 am #10954Just for stats sake. My site had the same problems as mentioned, but I resolved it using the steps mentioned. I can register, choose a password and log in afterwards.

April 29, 2014 at 3:56 pm #10913I’m also getting a lot of what looks like real users trying to log in. I don’t want to ban them because I figure some people might have forgotten on which sites they have registered, and which ones they haven’t.
I have also added an instant ban for anyone trying “Admin/admin”. In addition I’ve set a limit to four incorrect tries and then the IP bans for a day. That is usually enough to discourage stupid wannabe hackers with nothing better to do. They just move onto another WordPress site.
I also get lots of people trying their luck with my own username. On my dot com I’ve just set instant bans for a day as I am the only one who logs into that WordPress installation.
People setting permanent bans are running the risk of losing customers in the long run. Most people are assigned a new IP every time they log on. If they get your banned IP they won’t be able to load your site. Be careful and make sure you really want permanent bans. Rather set the ban for a day or two and then fall away.
