sounds good – just wanted to be sure I had the latest
and 40 promoted keywords should work (at least for awhile!)
I love the rainbow! Catch me a few lizards while your there.
only lizards we’ve seen wouldn’t evn count as appetizers – lots of little guys who won’t hold still for pix; as opposed to the western ground squirrels in Zion today who literally stood on the side of the trail posing for tourists!
interestingly, SS took a couple of the rainbow shots, but rejected others for ‘lighting problems’!!!

September 26, 2013 at 1:12 am #1539on the bug stomping list — what’s the latest version of the pro plugin? I still just see 1.1.7
the BIG category edit bug is still there:
use bulk edit, select items, eg Varanasi as keyword, get 48 images. I select 5 and click on categories, then try to delete the category ‘varanasi’ from these 5 items — it SAYS it’s doing that, but
1. when I return to the search page it still shows all 48 original images
2. the ENTIRE varaansi category has now been deletedSeptember 26, 2013 at 1:09 am #1538i’m traveling in Utah for next 10 days or so, so i’m holding off any updates until I get back home
but – is the network search tracking file going to be added soon? there’s been a lot of guessing about what’s going on with networking, promoted keywords, etc, but having this file would let us get real data…
also – can you post a list of the proposed & suggested changes and whether they’re on the list, have been added/fixed, etc…
eg, are we going to be able to add more than 20 promoted keywords? for me this is a high priority as I just don’t see many hits happening with the existing promoted keywords (if we had the search tracking I could give you some actual stats!)

I learned how to disconnect when I was trying to extract my testing site from the network
Switch off networking on your own site
Contact everyone who is linked to you and ask them to remove your site from their network (Cascoly’s information would be useful for this unless you have kept all the emails letting you know when someone linked)
Ask Ajt and Cascoly to remove you from their lists
Wait for everyone’s sites to updateIt is not immediate but can be done over a few days as not everyone is around every day.
it’s even easier — just turn off networking and no one will be able to link to your site, and previous links will no longer include the site in searches; it would of course be polite to notify those in your network that you’re opting out so they can use their links for someone else.

No, it is not a zero sum game, however, the main function of the site was always to sell images and that EVERYONE in the network would benefit from being connected. So far, a few are benefitting and most are not. If most of the people are not benefitting, it was told to us that there would be no harm…that we could disconnect from the network and continue with our site. But now it feels like people who disconnect will forever be tethered, and not to their advantage but to everyone elses.I still have a few months to go to make a decision on whether this whole project has been a success for me. But i would be remiss if i didnt start thinking of the future. I have no issue whatsoever in paying for plugins and things as long as i am making sales. But i cant afford to keep paying for things that are not absolutely necessary when i am making no sales, or when the things i have already paid for dont work correctly.
I dont know why you are so surprised that people are showing signs of disillusionment. If being networked has no advantages for most people, why would you imagine that they would want to stick around and provide help for those who are, in essence, competitors? It should be as it is named, symbiotic.
I have put a lot of my time and effort into this just as everyone has. Trust me, i would prefer to be making good sales and not even worrying about this.
you don’t seem to understand the concept of a non-zero sum game. instead it seems if YOU don’t make saes right away, the projects not working — but how are you or anyone else HURT by networking? if you don’t want to network – just turn it off! your site will still wor; you wont help anyone else by displaying their images, but the global searches will still show YOUR images! that’s parasitic rather than symbiotic, but it’s part of the design. the network is doing EXACTLY what it promised — increasing exposure for all.
as far as time spent – the theme’s only been active for a few months – we’re competing with agencies and free sites that have been around for years. you have about 600 images online, most in the most competitive areas– how many sales did you get from those before symbio? which is more LIKELY to help you — advertising your 600 images by yourself, or having others help by displaying them on searches? everyone IS benefiting from increased exposure. no one promised anyone would make anything on this project. but most of us continue to see this as superior to trying it alone. if you disagree, that’s your choice

Thanks for the explanation, that is how i understood it would work.
But the fact still remains my utilizing the information will depend on my spending money to buy a plugin. If i choose not to buy the plugin, i dont want the data available to everyone else anyway, therefore, i dont want the extra url query stuff showing on my site and in my urls.
If i ever choose to separate from the network because i am not getting any sales, i should be able to make a total separation and yet still be able to sell my photos. it should not be set up so that developers get to continue to gather data from my site. That is how it should be, and that is how it was represented in the beginning of the SY project.
If a plugin has a certain functionality, all that is required for that specific functionality should be contained in the plugin.
All i am saying is that people should have the option. If someone wants to use that kind of data and pay for the plugin, cool. If they dont, there shouldnt be random code on their site.
NO – you don’t have to pay anything to use the data – most plugins are free
symbiostock.info is free
symbiostock-search.com is freemaking it an option destroys the basic premise of a GLOBAL search, and coordinating across 100s of sites would be a mess.
the data is there for ANYONE to use. it’s part of being in the network; you can use it individually, or benefit when other developers display your site and images.
this tag has been there for many versions now, with no previously reported problems, so it’s odd if problems are suddenly appearing
once more – it’s not a zero sum game, though some posts eeem to be thinking it is — ‘if it doesn’t help me right now, I don’t want to be helping anyone else’
September 25, 2013 at 2:26 pm #3164a handful of salt is not enough here — PE has been less than open from the start and stopped posting in msg when some of their outright lies were exposed — eg telling buyers they;d get the best prices, and telling sellers they’d get the best prices too! they asked money for a product that wasn’t ready for even beta, and as of a week ago still had nothing that could be tested.
maybe it will work, but right now, as noted in msg it’s just vaporware
September 24, 2013 at 10:55 pm #3133in the example above, the image was indexed for the site that displayed it as a thumbnail – sometimes, when a site changes those thumbnails, the image won’t even be indexed any more, altho google will still show it until it checks the original page again
if you click on ‘show original image’ you’ll only see the image that the original page showed, isolated, again probably just a thumbnail
these are google ‘features’ not sym

Number of promoted sites in search page is limited to 5, so there can be no more than 15 sites (10 from “regular” network and 5 promoted).
an update soon will let us track which sites are being searched and with wht kywords, so we’ll have a much more accurate idea of how the network is working

Hello everyone! My name is Nate, and I’m very excited to join the Symbiostock family! My new site is at SnapVectors.com.
A little about me… I’m a graphic designer, and having been doing stock vectors and illustrations since 2006. I started out just doing them for fun and to have credit to buy photos, but it has turned into a big part of my income.
Colin and Linda from picturemojo.co.nz have helped me get my site designed. I only have a few of my vectors up on my site so far, and am trying to add them quickly. It is a time consuming process as you all know. I have about 2000 vectors in my portfolio, so it is going to take awhile. 🙂
I would love any feedback on how I can improve my site!
Thanks,
NateI’ve added you to the global search at http://symbiostock-search.com

As the network grows, that list of searches from other sites is going to get VERY long on your search result page.
not a big concern – as I’ve noted, since there are so few promoted keywords, there really are very few matches — and those are onlty for the FEW common promoted keywords like Christmas or stock — even these mostly have fewer than 10 of the 100+ sites involved.
September 20, 2013 at 3:22 am #1380the keyword searches are meant for users — similar to any other global search across all images in the network; I’ve mostly created reports that I was interested in tracking, and i’m open to suggestions for other reports
the reports below the basic search are more interesting to site owners, but I’ve left them open for the curious — unlike agencies, we can see what keywords are being used, how often keywords are used, what focus each site has, how many categories they have, etc. you can also use these searches to quickly make contact sheets of your images that you can post on external sites (http://cascoly-images.com/pix/custom-contact-sheets-for-seo/ )
looking at your own keyword lists you can find misspellings, etc and tune your image keywords
looking at other site keywords you might find keywords you can add
in some future version, we’ll be able to track the keywords users enter so we can see in near real-time how well our keywords are performing
September 20, 2013 at 3:15 am #2999whenever a search is done, i log the ip, search type, timestamp and search keyword(s), then I can list searches by search type, etc. google & other bots are pretty easy to identify by their ip. right now it’s running 1000-3000 searches per day, so biggest problem is figuring how to display the data in a meaningful way

How did everyone react to the FAQs you wrote?
just from the few sites I’ve seen — some people linked directly to my pages, other copied the text to their pages
content-wise – most of the faqs were distilled from long threads in MSG, and then refined by further comments
