It looks like some of the prices are coming from test sites.
afaik, no test sites are included in the list, but there are some odd ones, which throw off the averages
October 18, 2013 at 11:10 pm #5393they don’t show up in media as unattached, probably since they’re part of a collection – but also difficult to search thru 9000 images to find what I need!

Thanks Steve, It should go back to English for you now as I have removed the translator. I still want one just have to work out where I can put it so it does not muck other things up.
works fine — one thing I hadn’t realized — I never do anything about the ‘cookies’ bar at top – so I didn’t realize there was another menu underneath! you list most of the topics again on the home page, so it’s not a big problem
previously the translator button was in the same space as your logo – so the order I which those show up may change after the initial display
October 18, 2013 at 8:26 pm #4625also, if you set an image to be the preview after the collection has been created, it doesn’t show the collection fo4r sale — instead you get a list, with no images of the items in the collection

I am trying another one out on my site – currently above the logo – still cannot search using Spanish but it does translate more of the site. However, Spanish is more flowery than English and the translator disappears under the header so you need to refresh the page and grab it quickly to change back to English
I just left a message about this in the other thread – whether refresh or exit entirely, the translate box goes by too fast to change. looks like i’ll be practicing my French on your site for a little longer
there’s also a free Microsoft translator widget available that I used for awhile
October 18, 2013 at 6:43 pm #5352I like the look, and have never found it obviously girly or feminine…
a minor collateral issue — I clicked to translate to French, just to test how well it did when I translated the French back to English. but once I change to French I can no longer change to ANY language — the ‘translate’ box sometimes flashes by, but never allows a change. must be getting stored in a cookie, since it still goes to French when I leave the site & return. not a problem if you hit the right language the first time, but if you select Urdu by mistake, you can’t go back.
also, just in case anyone wonders about SEO implications — the actual source of the page remains English at all times – it does the translation the fly, so a crawler will never see the other language(s)
October 18, 2013 at 6:15 pm #5378since most sites are found thru online searches, the actual domain name is less important these days. but unless you’ve established a brand with your name, i’d suggest using a business name rather than an individual’s name.
also, take a look at the current sym sites to get more ideas

What do you mean by that :/
from previous post:
also, display of categories takes TOO LONG — looks like it’s getting 5 minipics for every category. that’s 900 image retreivals, 99% of which will never be seen. this is overkill for anyone trying to look at 1 or 2 categories — better to just get the images when they actually ask for the category
October 17, 2013 at 11:30 pm #4977ok, but what about the long time it takes to show the screen because of the numerous searches???
October 17, 2013 at 10:07 pm #5220my point wasn’t that you’re competing with your images on pond, but that you’ll be sending people to pond itself where they may find other videos. of course they might find pond themselves, but why make it easy? same argument applies to linking from your site to alamy or any other agency.
at least within the sym network, there’s mutual display and referrals

My new video site http://www.symbiostockvideo.com has just launched. I’m looking to network with people ideally with separate video sites or with those that have videos on their site.
I realise that I am the first to try this, but I hope others will follow me.
Kind regards
Marki’ll be posting videos on my site, but it” never be more than 10%
you might also want to use ‘video’ as one of your promoted keywords

I just put a Pond5 widget on a stock video page on my site for the time being.

the download link is sent to the email you use to pay on paypal — the email you use to (painfully) register is an extra, unnecessary step
I sell maps from my website using paypal with no registration needed
http://cascoly.com/bookstore/evolution.aspHow is it done? How does the person get the link? From Paypal? How does the whole thing generate? If there is a hiccup somewhere along the line do you track it back through the payment/email used?
Thanks for your info.
Jo
the link is created in sym but sent in the thank you note from paypal
you also get a notice of the sale with the image # and you always can track with paypal history

all categories are messed up
also, display of categories takes TOO LONG — looks like it’s getting 5 minipics for every category. that’s 900 image reteivals, 99% of which will never be seen. this is overkill for anyone trying to look at 1 or 2 categories — better to just get the images when they actually ask for the categoryanyway — here’s what my categories look like in ‘image categories’
Birds
— Penguins
— Puffins
Business
…
…
Travel – Latin America (202)
Travel – Turkey (115)
Travel – United States (1118)
…
— Utah
— — Bryce Canyon
— — Escalante
— — Zion and Cedar BreaksI understand we can’t go more than 1 deep, so I changed all my sub categories under travel to be their own ‘travel – ‘ categories. I still have some 2nd level sub-sub categories (eg Bryce), but i’ll deal with those later
however, the image categories are completely alphabetical, and the subcategories are displayed as if they were subs of the preceding alphabetical top level category. resulting in this :
Animals (231)
–> Antarctica (56)
Antique Maps (117)
Architecture | Interiors (346)
–> Arizona (53)
Birds (198)
–> Bryce Canyon (60)
–> Buddhism (108)
–> Burma – Myanmar (41)note, too that Buddhism and Burma are actually 1st level under travel-asia, while Bryce is SECOND level under Utah which is under travel-US, but they’re shown as if they were equivalent level subs under ‘birds’. if the new system can’t deal with second level categories like US –> Utah –> Bryce, then it should ignore them rather than showing them out of context. (I plan to make a separate ‘detailed categories’ page to handle these cases)
a completely alphabetical listing eliminates all the necessary information
one solution would be to append any parent info before sorting — eg, Bryce would become
travel – united states > Utah > Bryce and then everyone would play together nicely;
since these lists will get long, twould be helpful if only top level categories were shown, with ability to expand or contract
