No worries, I wont comment any further. I hope you get your issues fixed.

Thanks, only one small bug left with the license icons as far as I can see.

At first I thought it might be an error on my end but two of us are getting the error and it is also cross browser. Replicates on Chrome/Firefox/IE9.

Its got nothing to do with newbies, I didnt even know you were new. I dont pay attention to that, I dont keep up with 115 symbiostock sites and their owners. I just made an observation. I still stand by it.

I’ll turn it around, all these threads with issues on 3rd party plugins give Symbiostock a bad rep. More and more people think its a buggy piece of software and that it needs a ton of work to run and maintain.

I’d reply but I fear nothing positive will come of it so you are entitled to your stance. It’s as valid as anybody else’s.

I’m not an expert but I tend to keep my descriptions short and fairly to the point. I follow this policy; the name should provide a brief idea of what the artwork is about. The description simply expands on the name little bit.

    For example:
Name = “Corn and Milk 01”
Description = “A Corn Cob presented on an Old Wooden Cutting Board with a Glass of Milk.”

I have come to realise that all the SEOs and other such services favour “short and sweet” over lengthy descriptions. So it kind of plays along with people’s short attention spans. I think it also reads better on smaller devices and in little description boxes and such.

So I’ve just made it a habit to keep it brief and include only information directly pertinent. If something is obvious then it doesn’t really need to be pointed out in detail. I believe that “Black Cat playing with a Ball of String” will be easier to read and index than “A lovely, Long Haired, Fluffy, Cat plays with a ball of Twine while looking directly at the camera. This Image is suitable for Advertising or Greeting cards.”

Put the word “Twine” into the Keywords and use “String” rather which is easier to translate and/or read for those that do not speak much English.

Essentially the buyer just wants to search for what they need. They will know what they want once they see it. I think the descriptions work for you long before the client sees the image. Search engines index and search Names, Descriptions, and Keywords.

I do write and I have learnt to cut back to a very simple, short, and plain English descriptions. It is just easier for buyers who do not speak English as a regular language.

One revision that we will need in the future is to allow the editing of the licenses. I think I’ve seen this mentioned before. My flow of thought is that in a year (few years… yes thinking way ahead) we need to raise (possibly lower) prices and extended licenses etc.

I think currently since there is no way to edit them, the license has to be deleted and then recreated. I suspect that this will orphan the pictures from the various licenses. It would be a huge mission to sort out a large database.

I suppose for existing sites it would be better to hold off for a little while till the final version is complete. Since I started from scratch I took the plunge instead of doing it all twice.

I must say that overall it seems to be quite stable. I cannot comment on the shopping cart side as I haven’t set that up for sale yet. Some of my “bugs” were really not bugs but misunderstanding on my part.

on galaxy note 2, he has no header image at all 🙂

so whatever he did, it doesn’t work on mobile phones.. not even on one of the largest mobile screens..

I don’t have a tablet so I checked on my Android smartphone which has a 4″screen so it’s a mini tablet of sorts. I also have no logo or top header at all. Perhaps this is the layout for the mobile device but then we need to insert a logo elsewhere.

    Jo

Edit: It’s not just on a tablet. If you resize your browser smaller than a certain size it takes on this mobile view and the header disappears.

Edit 2: http://www.clipartillustration.com/ doesn’t do this. The Header Logo scales down with the page.

Thanks Christine! I was just going to cut and paste it 😀

As I said this just quick and rough guess work on my part. Leo might be able to give us more precise max width needed. The size 1200xlittle more than your Logo works.

Oh and yes, I’m using v2.7.2. I think that is the latest version number.

    Jo

    Edit: Just upgraded to v2.7.3

It is to be expected that people will add recommended plugins. This is why I installed one or two. Having a negative reaction to “Newbies” will not encourage people to use Symbiostock. We want to encourage people to use the system to the max.

I appreciate all the help I have received and because I have received it, I will encourage others. I will also chip in and help people out on topics I learn about. At the moment my knowledge is rather scant but with the help from Leo and Christine, my site is nearly finished!

I, myself, learnt a lot about Symbiostock by reading other posts of people seeking help or reporting bugs.

By people posting issues that may not even be Leo’s fault it brings them to light and it creates a database of information for others to use. This is not to be seen as a negative thing.

Stating the obvious takes no effort and imparts nothing. Offering help to a challenge makes the world a friendlier place.

So far I’m finding this place to be a pleasant and helpful place… Thanks everyone!

Right now I’m working on the footer issues 😀

There’s a Footer Issue? LOL! I’d like to be able to change colours on it if possible. Ok I haven’t yet begun to look into the code and style sheets… yet! 😀

When setting up standard licence click the yes and put 00.00 in each of the price boxes because you are not increasing it by anything, then in the next box put a brief description of what that licence covers -on my image page click the tiny page icon after the licence type

Oh! You’ve hit the nail on the head I think. I thought it overwrote the previous value. I’m going to test it…

Ok, now I understand! So if I’m correct in my thinking, IF I do an Extended license then it basically is an add on to the normal price, the two (Standard & Extended licenses) are added together to produce the extended license.

If this is correct then that is what the confusion was about!

    Royalty Free below the image

Jo, This is a Syxtra feature
Go to Syxtra Settings, scroll down to the bottom and under Small Features, untick
    Enable automatic License Message
Create Editorial category or use a keyword editorial

Leo – is that error something we can fix ourselves or do we wait for the next release, we have been reporting it since just after the PPin came out ?

Oh terrific! Many thanks 🙂 This of course brings a new question to mind, how will the buyer know which license the image is sold under?

EDIT: Ok, I just updated a file with a “Standard” license and now it shows below the prices! 😀

EDIT 2: Then the price doubles! Eeek!

Don’t worry. Hating Symbiostock is a perfectly normal feeling. I hate it too and I’m the main developer!

Your mistaken though – I’m not going to take time off until the main upgrade is done, and the random issues such as this are completely done. So do not worry.

With that said your site is one of the better looking on the network, so don’t knock your progress. It appears your almost there.

Please send me an admin account (leo [ at ] symbiostock.com) so I can address those bugs you mention. Please list any others which have affected you and hopefully this will be it for you.

Don’t get me wrong! I don’t hate it! In fact I am really excited and I’m beginning to love it. What put me off starting earlier on was not having enough experience (plus I’m not wired for code other than HTML+CSS) and then getting stuck like now.

Then Google jumped the gun and listed the site quickly. It took me a day to finally come up with a winning dot.com and now I’m indexed LOL!

Essentially I have problems with changing the licenses on the existing files. I was going to test uploading a new file to check.

I also keep getting Royalty Free below the image no matter what license is attached!

    I’ll email you shortly. Thanks!

I wish i could help but i am still on 2.6.5. That was supposed the cool version, along with the premium plugin. But now there is a new version out, and things in the 2.6.5 version still dont work correctly. I havent even tried licenses yet because people who have, still have issues.

I have basically been focusing on uploading. I have had one sale in about 5 months, so spending any more time on trying to get things to work correctly just doesnt seem to make sense. I cant imagine upgrading to 2.7.2 at this point because it will break a lot of things i have spent hours on fixing already.

I understand your frustration but dont have any answers. I am trying to stay positive too but its pretty difficult.

I hope someone will check in and be able to help you.

Thanks. I don’t know much about the older version as I just decided to start with the new version. Overall it is great! Everything works well and it looks a lot better. The main problem I’m having is with the licensing. Either it’s a bug or something I’m doing wrong but without some tech support… these will be the same reasons why a really great platform dies through bad publicity.

Yes I know it’s free but the hosting isn’t and the Premium part cost me more than the hosting. I don’t have a problem with that. I do however have a mess on my hands and I keep seeing comments that Leo is going to take time off from the project. Well, that is not such a good idea when we are sitting with really hot potatoes.
