So, if I understand correctly, you would have Symbio create “sitemap.xml” which would suck in the data from Yoast’s index file, and also the data from Symbio’s image index file, and combine them together? The benefit being that all spiders could reference the data easily?
If so, sounds good.
Not suck the data – just reference it.
Sitemaps can also be indexes of other sitemaps. We’re talking about an index.
If YOAST does not create a sitemap.xml it might be better just to have the symbiostock sitemap plugin create the index.
February 17, 2014 at 11:47 pm #9764Is it still down for you?

It was fine a few days ago, but now http://semmickphoto.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=image stopped working and just returns a blank screen, all other options in the image menu are working.
That is odd – http://semmickphoto.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=image brings me to a working page (I’m still logged into your site by default)

Just a note on this (I might be wrong – leo?), but in the suggestions in the OP it has url’s that end with “sitemap.xml”
If you are using Yoast you probably won’t have that file. You will have “sitemap_index.xml”
I missed that completely! In that case you’d want to have a sitemap generator up for sure. Perhaps it might be a good bonus for me to have Symbiostock create a small sitemap.xml file which lists all the other sitemaps (between yoast and symbiostock)
Many services look for sitemap.xml by default, even the spiders we’ve never heard of.
February 17, 2014 at 10:49 pm #9793This one you simply download from github. I’ll have another update out soon with a few new changes mostly for newbies.

I’ve installed and set WP Super Chache as described by Leo a couple of days ago.
Cache Timeout: 604800
Garbage Collection: Once DailyThe Latest Images widget did not change images shown since I’ve installed WP Super Cache (about 3 days ago).
Is that normal? Shouldn’t the garbage collection interval determine how often the Latest Images widget should reflect changes?Yep! Thats perfect.
Your related images won’t change until a given image in cache expires (1 week)
Actually because I haven’t been uploading for over a year (being on Symbiostock all the time) I set my expiration to 9999999999999
That way the whole site is permanently cached and my server works less hard (allowing the forums and such to stay unimpeded)
You could do similarly.
For instance, if you upload once a week, then simply have your cache set to NEVER expire, but once you upload, then regenerate the whole cache, allowing similars to update.
This is a bunch of ideas of course…don’t use them if they are too much work. What you have now is great.

Hi
I have finally completed my site (still adding more images though)! I would like to be added to the directory list and global search at symbiostock.info. How do I go about doing that please?
My site is: http://thestockstash.com/
I still need to add to my network and fix a few small things but other than that everything is working great and I am very excited to be on board!
Thanks!
Liz
BTW – your Symbiostock.com id happens to be 000077
77 is a good number 😀

I get two of them green, 14 blue and the rest red (failed) for various reasons. Is this normal or should they all be green all the time?
I previously had the list in the Settings area of WP so no idea what was going on before
It can be a hit-or-miss with ping lists. They change often. Just delete the ones that repeatedly do not work. You can find various lists online to experiment with.
Don’t micromanage it too much — 6 or six success is plenty. 14 is great.
February 17, 2014 at 10:31 pm #9757Cascoly, when you come in for a visit it reminds me of when I was a little boy playing at Chuck-e-cheese and the mascot would suddenly come in and run through the habitrail with us!
YAY!
February 17, 2014 at 10:07 pm #9791There should be no problem. This version only has a few branding changes (icons, default avatars, etc) it won’t effect you much.
February 17, 2014 at 6:15 am #9814Try again if you can. Clicking the links you just posted it seems they work fine. If you get any errors simply delete the ones that don’t go through (or correct the errors if its in your ability)
Interesting error on the feedburner one. I might have to add the Image Feed to the top of the header.

This may be a dumb question, but when I add my domain in the listing, do I include the sub directory? My site is actually at http://www.photomining.com/s/ .
Not a dumb question.
Each sub-directory has a different word press install? Then you’d have to do this for each one separately.

Thanks for this Leo, I have just a question: if the images will be indexed immediately they will not be indexed with description in Header2 Style and without categories (it takes me from 10 min. to one hour – depends how many images I upload) to edit the description, put categories, ecc. If they will be indexed before are edited what will happen? Is not a good thing I suppose. Explain me better how it works. Thanks.
One more thing – if you save-to-draft that won’t initiate a ping. Publishing them will.

I’m not certain every service will jump to the site instantly … usually you enter a queue. Even then, edits you make will also initiate the ping list.
I wouldn’t worry too much – an active and updating site is a good way to keep search engines interested.

Thanks Leo for your heads-up on this.
I am using ping lists for quite a while. This is part of the standard WP and can be configured here: wordpress dashboard > settings > writing
What added value does the WP Ping Optimizer provide compared to standard WP, I wonder?
It stops you from spamming 😕
People don’t write blog-posts 10-per-30second-period. But when you upload, that is what you are actually doing. Ping optimizer moderates that process.
