the download link is sent to the email you use to pay on paypal — the email you use to (painfully) register is an extra, unnecessary step

I sell maps from my website using paypal with no registration needed

I did that too a long time back, so maybe that’s why I haven’t had any spam comments.

But what about spam registrations? That what the OP was asking about. Maybe Anti-Captcha doesn’t do anything about that. I thought it did. Maybe not??

yes, I still get spam registrations, but they don’t do anything or cause any problems; easy to ignore

I’ve done the same, Christine — I have a generic guest account; so far though all sales have come thru registered accounts

the guest account is reasonably secure, since the download link will go to the email they use for paypal

Going where no one’s gone before…..

another example of symbio’s flexibility! and glad to see the zip price is showing up!

@easybuy: storage is still pretty cheap these days, so you might start with some tests on your existing site.

Now to get started adding my clips…

I’ve never lost any drafts when I updated ….

so your choices are to publish then update, or update then publish

if you backup before updating you can always move back to the previous version

    activate some generic theme
just rename your current symbiostock folde to symbioXXX
    install the new one
if that doesn’t work, then delete the symbio folde and rename the vold foler back to symbiostock & activate

the db is separate from the theme, so anything you do there will remain

that’s been said every 5 years for the past 15 years! billions have been made by betting against that position

we don’t really know, since they never say exactly how any of their indexing works — you just have to work it out from results

for the image indexing, desc, title, etc don’t seem to matter as much as the actual image – if it’s similar to another one already indexed, it’s less likely to get indexed; again, most SEO advice is for text, not images, so what works there may not work for images.

and it’s not perfect or even always consistent —
eg do google search for ‘images moose walking’ – 2 of my images appear in the first 8 imgaes (from 123) and the imaes aso appear farther down the page (this time from shutterstock). the exact images shown change from week to week, but those first 2 are always among the first shown. and those same images are at a half dozen other agencies, yet don’t get indexed.

there doesn’t seem to be any way to deal with it — you’re competing against millions of other images, so trying to super optimize each image is a dead end; best you can do is continue to produce new images.

when I first started my sym site, I was getting about 25% of my images indexed, but it’s grown over time to my current rate of about 75%; some of this may be because I upload to my site about the same time as I submit to agencies, but most of my content is still available elsewhere

I just tried uploading some smaller images, and that doesn’t explain the 0 – but it uncovered another problem: when published, large is defined as the original image when the image is 1100 x 1563

    Bloggee jpg 2.44″ × 3.47″ @ 72 dpi
    176 × 250px 1.00
    Small jpg 4.89″ × 6.94″ @ 72 dpi
    352 × 500px 4.00
    Medium jpg 9.78″ × 13.89″ @ 72 dpi
    704 × 1000px 6.00
    Large jpg 3.67″ × 5.21″ @ 300 dpi
    1100 × 1563px 10.00

but when I upload an even smaller image – 461 x 346 it gets really weird:

    Bloggee jpg 3.47″ × 2.61″ @ 72 dpi
    250 × 188px 1.00
    Small jpg 6.94″ × 5.21″ @ 72 dpi
    500 × 375px 4.00
    Medium jpg 13.89″ × 10.43″ @ 72 dpi
    1000 × 751px 6.00
    Large jpg 6.4″ × 4.81″ @ 72 dpi
    461 × 346px 10.00

you’re on v2.5.5 which is very old in symbio terms, so it could be any number of things

what is the actual size of the image? what differences are there between images that show 0 and those that don’t? dimensions in MP? file size in Mb?

if you use a transaltion tool, do a ‘view source’ after your page is translated — some tools, the MS one, do not change the underlying text – they take the original source for that page & translate it on the fly — so any search engine would still see the original

http://symbiostock-search.com gives many of those reports now, mostly on combined keywords, etc

category also is not stored in the xml file, though

you can see the any site’s xml at http://yoursite/symbiostock_image_xml

the batch editor in the pro plugin helps with batch editing but these addirional fields aren’t covered there – not sure how much call there’d be for a report that sorted by any of the xml fields, but did not allow bulk editing (any editing would have to go back to the actual image in the database. the xml’s are just meant for reporting

Is there a backend way to search for images that don’t have certain licenses applied? I want to make sure that everything has the Standard and Extended Applied (haven’t uploaded any of my Editorial shots yet)…but I’m not sure there’s a good way to search for the oddballs that I missed (if any).

What about images that do/don’t have release settings applied?

all images have either a YES or NO set for release, so you’d have to look at them all to judge whether they’re needed

rating, rank, exclusive and model release info is in the image.xml file so I could pull that out on my global database, but prices aren’t stored

leo – can you posted an update on the previous list of bugs/features? that way we can avoid listing things that have already been reported
