So couldn’t get that plugin to successfully complete its scan.

Hoping the Symbio team can confirm compatibility in the coming months with PHP7. 🙂

Does anyone else have experience running PHP7 on their server with Symbiostock?

    Any feedback would be great.

    Thanks Robin, that helps.

Are there plans in the near future to certify it as fully compatible?

    Hi Robin,

Im not looking to start an argument, and I’m not saying there is anything major missing currently.

However, I don’t think it should be up to your users necessarily to “provide clear cut examples of what is lacking that upgrading will provide” as you asked. Surely keeping up to date with the underlying software is necessary. I would think that as a developer you would want to continue to improve and refine the product and take advantage of new (albeit small) improvements to WordPress and Woocommerce. Then there is the issue of security as well. Are we going to stay compatible with WooCommerce 2.5 (released around 12 months ago, and soon to be 2 point versions out of date) simply because that was when Symbiostock was last developed? Does the same apply for WordPress itself?

Again, I’m not saying this to cause issues. Or to argue. Im simply concerned that my website that I have invested a lot of time in may not be supported in the near future by Symbiostock if we aren’t at the very least maintaining compatibility with the newer release of WordPress and Woo. I guess I am looking for reassurance that I won’t have to go through the same process of virtually starting from scratch as when the original Symbio was no longer being developed.

So it seems we skipped Woocommerce 2.6 completely, which is fine.

Just wondering Robin, any plans to make the plugins compatible with Woocommerce 2.7? It is in beta now: https://woocommerce.wordpress.com/2016/12/15/woocommerce-2-7-beta-1-is-here/ – with a release around February.

3 main reasons why I think it would be good to get it supported:

    1. Schema is improved

    2. Speed/performance is vastly improved. Especially on stores like ours that can easily have 1000’s of products (mine’s about to pass 3,000). According to the link above, in some areas performance for large stores can be improved by 94%.

    3. Image gallery on product pages has been improved. Not sure if this is reliant on a theme being compatible, but if not, it provides zoom and enlarge features, and big improvements on mobile

Anyway, just thought it was worth a mention. Haven’t seen too much lately about development of Symbiostock but hopefully there are plans to keep it moving ahead along with WordPress and WooCommerce.

    Cheers.

ok cool. Sorry to keep this thread going on now irrelevant things, but can I ask 2 more things…

    1. The admin option “Sync Thumbnails to Titles” is dangerous because it overwrites ALT and Description text in images when the Title changes. These fields get left blank. Could this be explicitly stated so users are warned of it? I lost a fair bit of work a while back because of this option being turned on.

    2. In the System Diagnostics check section (which is very helpful) can you add some more checks, for instance if the server supports “Use Apache’s mod_xsendfile” so we would know if we can use this option? The more options being checked in this section the safer to turn them on.

Anyway, thanks again for your quick work implementing my earlier suggestion.

One other suggestion while I’m at it….

WordPress compresses each image upon upload (https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/fix-jpeg-compression/) which is good for our sites, but perhaps it could be better.

Would it be possible to have 3 settings in Symbio admin – 1 for main product image, 1 for shop grid, and 1 for tiny thumbnail and be able to enter the percentage of compression applied to each? For instance, I would be confident that I could probably increase the amount of compression applied to tiny thumbnails without much visual impact, but it all would help with page load times seeing our sites are image-heavy.

Not sure if this is even possible, but just an idea. 🙂

Ok thanks Robin, thought it might reduce the amount of times you need to answer the same question on the forums 🙂

More important than amount of images to begin with is how many you add every day, so the site is “fresh” in google’s eyes. Thats why we got the feature to process X number of images per day added to Symbiostock a while back. So as Chrisroll said, go live when the site is professional looking, and then add a steady stream of images every day.

Thats the strategy I have taken and after some time I now have over 2,500 images online and counting.

Wondering same thing. Also, is Symbiostock compatible yet with WordPress 4.6 and WooCommerce 2.6.4?

Great Robin, thanks for explaining that clearly.

BTW – I have seen a few mentions of 3.2 -is there significant changes coming?
