A major point to make is that you must assign a background colour to your top menu even if just white or slight grey. It is distracting and illegible when you scroll and get text over text.
Jo, thanks for pointing that out about Christine’s site. I have the same problem and don’t like it, but didn’t have a clue what to do about it.
Now, thanks to you, I know. Gonna go fix that right now.
Thanks!

Honestly I never actually thought about it as competing for customers. I think of people on SymbioStock as a bunch of adventurous people trying a new route and learning from each other.
… and no! You can’t have any of my customers! I ain’t got any yet LOL!
LOL!! And +1 here to all that.

Still tweaking a little but it did not take long to get it pretty much the way I wanted it.
Your site looks great, Tim. Very impressive!

At least with my site I can work for myself. So I am trying and I am expecting some moderate to great results 😀
Independence is worth a lot. Good that you’re establishing your independent site while you’re young. Then you’ll work as hard as you can at your craft, build your reputation, grow your customer base, and make a good living from it all. I’m willing to bet you achieve that goal.

So my goal is to enjoy what I do, produce a great product and let it speak for itself. If it is better than the next person, I’ll make the sale.
Bingo! At least for me.
I’ve been “shooting” birds and critters for 3 decades, long before even the possibility of IS, SS, FT, or my own SYS website ever existed. Even though I’ve made plenty of sales in different formats along the way, I’ve kept doing it all these years not to make a living at it but because I love doing it. And I’ll keep on doing it until I no longer can, for that same reason.
Of course, I’m older. Even older than you, Jo. 🙂 I’m retired. Don’t have to make a living doing this. If I did, I might feel different about it.
But if it’s true that wisdom comes with age, then I believe one thing is true: you’re a whole lot more likely to succeed in any field you choose if you love what you do and work hard at being the best you can be, than if you’re just cranking out “what sells” for a fickle market.

i’d been getting 10+ spams a day, with no anti-spam filters..
I turned off all comments AND tracebacks and haven’t had any since – i’m trying to keep plugins to the minimum
I did that too a long time back, so maybe that’s why I haven’t had any spam comments.
But what about spam registrations? That what the OP was asking about. Maybe Anti-Captcha doesn’t do anything about that. I thought it did. Maybe not??

A non-registered user of the site should be able to load up his or her shopping cart and only at time of purchase be required to log in (if at all as the argument goes). It is like virtual shopping and then checking what costs what, and see it all added up, together with extended licenses, discounts etc.
I agree with that, Jo. Would make for a much smoother user experience.

Just installed a Captcha
Make sure it’s ANTI-Captcha. Your users won’t be aware of it. Much better than a regular, annoying Captcha.

Sorry if I’m behind the curve…maybe you could direct me to the original discussion?
The thread I remember was over in the MSG group. Maybe I’ll have time to hunt it up later. Not now.

I also think that signing up for every site is one of the downsides of the network. I don’t have an answer to an alternative.
Well, under the current system you only have to sign up to a site if you want to purchase a license there. I can’t imagine any buyer signing up up to each and every site, because the content is so different. Nobody would need something from every site in our network.

Thanks I will. But…………..I thought I read something from Leo that spam registrations might help site visibility or maybe I got it wrong.
I don’t think so.

No I’m not
Get Anti-Captcha plugin.
I’ve had it installed since the first week of my site’s existence, and I haven’t had a single spam registration yet.
Good luck!

Yes thats what I said, its working for me, I got to download both images. 🙂
Whohoo!!! That’s what I needed to hear. Wonderful news, Ron. Thank you so much for doing that!
The only thing different between the two tests was the upgrade to 2.8.x Nothing else changed. So… that had to be what made the difference. I’m very pleased, and I know Leo will be.
OK. I’m off to refund your payment.
Very grateful for your help, Ron.
October 17, 2013 at 2:16 am #5228Great work, Leo.
You go, guy!!! 🙂

I’m with you on the frictionless purchasing. I’ve wondered if having to use PayPal would stop (or slow) people from purchasing through Symbio sites.
More than Paypal, the concern among many here is that forcing each buyer to sign in to every single website in our network would be too cumbersome. There’s been talk of finding a way to sign up once for the SYS network, then purchase on whichever site one finds a desired image.
What this article is talking about is having a “pass” of some sort that somebody could purchase and then use at will wherever desirable content was found across the internet.
It’s an interesting idea that might give us our solution at some point down the road.
