    And they are teaching this to their competition? 😀

    Are you sure the objective isn’t to boycott us? 😀

    Interesting article. Took a quick look and have to read it with more attention.

    Thanks.

    I’m sure they’re teaching it to their buyers, featuring Shutterstock images. 🙂

    I thought it was an ad to sell the book. Either way I made some changes to incorporate some of these ideas.

    Very nice post. Highly recommended. I haven’t seen any meaningful landing page at symbiostock sites so far.

    What would you specifically be looking for as a meaningful landing page?

    A nicely designed page with a clear scope: make people leave their contacts. If a visitor does not leave a contact, it’s a lost visitor, especially if (s)he is paid for.

    A list of contacts is a precious asset in any business, especially in a small one. That’s why I also asked an integration with e-mail service in the topic I have started recently.

    Here is another article on landing pages: http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/7-landing-page-design-tips (note the first example with “grab coupon” button. Coupons are yet another powerful marketing tool: people like to enter coupon and to see how price goes down. It gives them a feeling of a control).

    For now, what I see in many symbiostock sites: a bunch of various (and often not the very best) pictures, explanation of royalties, “look at me and my cool pictures”, and other distracting stuff that that I have not time to study carefully since I cannot understand benefits for me, and therefore I (and many others potential buyers) close the site and forget about it.

    Look at this: http://www.barackobama.com/last-call-splash/? If I am American, I become happy that, finally, somebody (personally President of US) takes care of my very specific problem, health insurance.

    If my portfolio does not resolve any specific problem, I make a gift for my potential buyer: e.g., a coupon with a nice discount (even 100% for a certain amount of images), as a welcome gesture. Therefore, it is very important to have a functionality of discount for:
    1. a group of customers (e.g., new ones);
    2. a period of time (to urge a coupon to be used);
    3. a number of pictures (e.g. only 100 downloads can be done with this discount, if you are too late, you will not benefit a discount);
    4. a group of pictures (e.g., Easter theme, to resolve a specific problem of a designer who is seeking for Easter theme pictures).

    There should be possibility to enforce any combination of these constraints.

    I promise to buy the pro-plugin today or tomorrow, and to test if it allows such a flexibility. If not, I will probably ask for a refund ))) or for a promise that developers will implement those constraints.

    The professional/premium plugin does not offer those options*. The developer is currently working on a VAT/registration plug-in for European users to comply with the laws in some EU countries.

    You do make some very good points and I have just amended my site a little, still thinking about other things. Not many people land on the home page, most come via Google and go to the image(s) they are interested in, so that is probably where we need to put the main CTA’s.

    Edit: Collections do offer the option for discounted sets

    I also found this blog post very helpful. Thanks, Michele, for providing that link!

    My home page now reflects two things I learned and could implement with a few keystrokes.

    1. I already had lots of white space, but I’ve popped in some orange to complement the dominant blue.

    2. I added a typographic arrow in orange to add additional pop.

    Already it looks like an improvement to my eyes, so that makes me happy.

    EDITED: One question for somebody who might know: Do we have a direct link to our Register/Login page (other than the link at the top of the page)? I’d like to provide within the body of the text either a text or graphic link to that page but don’t know what the actual link URL is. Advice please, somebody, if you know.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for that, Steve. Yes, I guess that’s the only way we can point people to a spot to login or register.

    So I guess this link is the best one to my registration form: http://bestnaturestock.com/wp-login.php?action=register

    Your help is much appreciated!

    I am using OneAll Social Login plugin and it allows me to place a widget of social logins on the page. I currently have it setup on my home page next to the content. The plugin is not easy to setup, but once you do you can pretty much forget about it.

    I have implemented many of the suggestions from the above links. My preference is to have a pretty busy page, but I can see the points made. So I have pulled back my back ground and headers, and I will probably reduce the text on the home page. I have added a discounted collection, so I hope to see some action on that.

    I welcome constructive criticism.

    I am really excited by the opportunity to share with you my best photographic work. My love of photography has primarily been in the areas of landscape and nature photos, but I am branching out into architectural scenes. There is a wealth of mining communities in Arizona that have wonderful older buildings to photograph. My wife and I also love to travel to Hawaii where there is an amazing array of natural beauty to take advantage of.

    Why do buyers need to know this? What problems can they resolve with this statement?

    It’s not always that buyers need to know but the the search engines do. I don’t write text on my pages for potential buyers – most of them won’t read it anyway. I write content for search engines to get a good ranking. Give them something to work with!
