Oh and can we please ditch those blue bars that show up on the image page that says “Standard License” under the product table? I know there is a way around having them there, but it involves recreating all my licenses and re-applying them to everything. It seems like it doesn’t actually need to be there in the first place so removing it would be the best option.

    Sorry Leo, more work….!

Wow! Your all over this! And you got me just before signing off.

    WAS – class=”content-area span12″>

    NOW – class=”content-area col-md-12″>

This is referring to the “grid” (not Tron) which is 12 columns long. The old grid was referenced by span12, the new one by col-md-12 or col-md-6 or whatever. More here: http://getbootstrap.com/css/#grid

That said however are you saying that the new CTA page is all wrong? It might not have converted properly, so thank you for notifying me on that.

Regarding the Mobile-specific menu – first I have to do the ie9 bug. If the mobile-specific menu is not to overly complex (that is, more stuff that can blow up) then I can do it. I’ll address that as a last thing. Keep in mind too were’ just shooting for general compatabilty. Our target audience will mostly be people doing projects on computers…though I know thats changing slowly.

Gray gradients? Its possible we might be able to make a few variations on the colors altogether. But thats actually a bootstrap 3 default we can override.

The bold part is what I think must have happened. It just seems that it doesn’t hold the main content back to where it should, and so the widget area gets pushed below the content. Well, that what seems to be happening anyway.

    Thanks for taking a look.

Also, since switching between the two menu options, below header and top anchored, my WordPress Admin bar refuses to display at the top of the screen when I am browsing my site. I no longer have top anchored selected, but it still won’t show up the dark grey admin bar when logged in and browsing my site (in the backend it shows up fine, just when on the site itself)

The grey gradients I am refering to are the heavy ones that are on the left and right of the network results display for each networked memeber. I think they actually function as left and right arrows. But they are not very nice. These seem to be a new addition? Can we ditch them and go back to a simple <> instead?

Hey leo, with the update the homepage CTA template seems to have changed and doesn’t seem to call the appropriate widgets properly. It doesn’t set the page up as a sidebar page, just a fullwidth page with the widgets below it.

I noticed this change in the code (it goes all through the page, just one example)..

    WAS – class=”content-area span12″>

    NOW – class=”content-area col-md-12″>

Not sure if this code change means anything. Can you take a look?

    Cheers

ALSO – any thoughts on my points above re a mobile-specific menu? And getting rid of the grey gradients on network results display?

Lastly Leo, just to reiterate, when the menu option is Top Anchored, it will never work on small mobile devices. Thus why I suggested earlier this:

Also, I’m not sure how much extra work it would be, but on smaller devices such as an iPhone, the new responsive menu you have made takes up 90% of the screen when you land on a page. I think this is why many developers have coded that when the screen size gets down to X size, the menu is removed completely and replaced with a little floating box that scrolls down the page along with the user. When clicked it becomes a full screen menu. For an example see here: http://www.microstockman.com on a small mobile device (iPad probably too big, but on iPhone you’ll see what I mean). Again, you can also just use your desktop browser and shrink the width to the smallest it will go and you’ll see what I mean.

Hope you can think about it. But good work mate, I really like the changes overall.

Leo – Have you changed something with the way networked results are displayed visually? Grey gradients?

    Check it out here: http://thpstockphotos.com/search-images/yellow/

    Looks really weird.

It’s possible my own custom CSS is making it worse but I don’t think so

Suggestion: With the new header setup, could we have TWO logo areas? One as normal, and one that right justifies about the search box, so we can put a little advertising or something up there? Of course, it would have to auto-hide when the screen size becomes too small.

Seem to have lost my Latest Images widget from my homepage. Have removed and replaced it but still no luck.

It works on other pages but doesn’t like my homepage.

    Hmmm..

rolling back has issues with the menu, just so others are aware.

Looks like I am going to have to spend some time re-styling the site, but it’ll be worth it now that we are getting fully responsive.

Awesome! Not to move ahead too quickly, but we are ready for some beta testing! (At least, anyone brave enough to jump in! 🙂 )

    https://github.com/orangeman555/symbiostock/blob/metamorphosis/symbiostock.zip?raw=true 2.6.8

One feature that is available is the ability to make icon-oriented menu items:

    http://www.symbiostock.org/topic/158/create-dropdown-menus-with-icons-new-feature/

You can see it in action on my website, http://www.clipartillustration.com

In this version of Symbiostock multi-level menus do not work. This is because the latest version of bootstrap 3, which is made for the responsive web, does not support multi-level menus. Trying to force it in would be counter-productive.

    Some new features:

Stick nav menu to top (sticks while scrolling)
    [/*]

Place nav menu under header as normal
    [/*]

Turn daily updates on and off (if you are not uploading images, its not needed, and saves CPU)
    [/*]

Remove the “Images” or “Blog” option from search. (Will default to image search, and clean things up)
    [/*]

Change DOWNLOAD (green button under product table) to any word you want such as “Cart” or “Buy me darnit!”
    [/*]

Promoted keywords upped to 40
    [/*]

Fetch ALL directory sites from http://www.symbiostock.info (if your host is limited to 30 second script time, it may die … no biggie)
    [/*]

There may be other things, but I can’t remember right now =|
    [/*]
Trying it now, thanks for making these changes Leo.

Some reasonable feedback on this one – my symbiostock.com site (where you purchase the upgrade) uses a cookie cart. Its a nightmare of epic proportions if someone gets derailed in the process. There’s a whole new category of things that can go wrong. And believe me, I’ve had enough getting cursed out in the last 9 months (the final straw being yesterday on MSG)

Fair enough. Maybe thats a longer term project then.

What did I miss on MSG yesterday? I’m involved there less and less these days due to the general tone of it.

Thanks for noticing those things. Those are small fixes actually. If you can go through EVERYTHING response-related and post them I’ll blaze through them tonight 😀

I already made one a while back on MSG, so I’ll just post it here again:

    1. Header – All elements, including search box (REMOVE the image/blog drop down?) and search button
    2. Menu – Need a responsive menu that doesn’t have to be added in the footer of the theme. See an example on my other site http://www.microstockman.com on a mobile device and you will see what kind of a floating menu we could have. Also on my iPhone for some reason a large “Menu” word appears above the menu as a h1 tag I think. Ditch it.
    3. Latest images, similar images & featured images widgets – center the images on screen, currently they are in a single column off center on all widgets.
    4. Search results page – similar to number 3, images need centring as they are all in a single column
    5. Search results page (http://thpstockphotos.com/?s=tree&post_type=image ) – networked search results completely messed up, images overlapping each other, bunched up, squashed etc, author avatar and drop down not displaying nicely. This display needs a lot of work.
    6. Image page – Author picture needs padding & centring when it falls under the Photographer Info drop down
    7. Networked members widget & Page (http://thpstockphotos.com/symbiostock-network/ ) – avatar displays odly under the drop downs
    8. Symbio Network Directory page (http://thpstockphotos.com/symbiostock-network-directory/ ) – Author bio text overlaps each authors avatar badly, some avatars too big (user uploaded wrong one I’m guessing?) which throws off layout completely.

    9. Not just a responsive issue, same on desktop, but when a ZIP file is available, the brackets around the Price Heading ( ( $US ) ) get screwy and one drops down to the next line. Can we just ditch the brackets all together?

    _________

Also, I’m not sure how much extra work it would be, but on smaller devices such as an iPhone, the new responsive menu you have made takes up 90% of the screen when you land on a page. I think this is why many developers have coded that when the screen size gets down to X size, the menu is removed completely and replaced with a little floating box that scrolls down the page along with the user. Again, you can also just use your desktop browser and shrink the width to the smallest it will go and you’ll see what I mean.

While your completing the responsive side of things, would this be an option?

Just checked out your updated responsive menu – works MUCH better, nice work Leo!

Unfortunately it made me notice another bug…

On my iPhone 4 (you can get the EXACT same effect simply by dragging your browser window to the smallest width it will go) when you do a search on your site for anything, ‘horse’ for example, notice the network results. They get all jumbled up together and overlap with text and other elements.

Personally, I would prefer to get all these visual problems (including the bug where images show up on multiple pages when browsing) worked out first so that the site actually works on all devices. That way were aren’t turning away clients due to a buggy site. THEN we can improve the experience by adding more cool things like Cookie Cart, sign up options for those who need it (EU) and so on.

But thats just my 2 cents.

Anyone know anything about Google Merchant Centre? It seems to be another way to get your products listed on Google, in particular for shoppers – is that right?

It seems all that is needed is a feed of products – can and should this be implemented in symbiostock? Would this be a way to drive more traffic?
