Symbiostock recommends the 3.4.4 version of Woocommerce, however I am reluctant on using it as the latest version of Woocommerce is 3.6.5, so quite a few updates since 3.4.4. Some of these updates since 3.4.4 are security updates, which if not used may leave your store open to tampering.

    v3.4.6
    v3.5.7
    v3.5.8
    v3.6.5

Why does Symbiostock not use the latest versions and update accordingly with new releases?

    Thanks

    Hi Greg,

Although many plugins suggest that updates are necessary for security reasons, this is not the case a lot of the time, and the reason Symbiostock does not constantly update to match the newest version of any other plugin is that we have encountered many issues where in doing so, we actually introduced instability to our users as the third party plugin was released without sufficient testing.

So now, when we release an update to Symbiostock to correlate to an updated version of WooCommerce, we do extensive testing to minimize any issues, both with regards to Symbiostock and with regards to WooCommerce itself.

Unless there are necessary features required in upgrading WooCommerce, we do not prioritize keeping up with other plugin versions.

It’s a good question, and one I think people are not fully informed about – software should not need to be updated every month, and we view the Symbiostock and WooCommerce software package as a standalone solution for photographers and artists. As it is right now, if you want a stable, long term solution for your needs, the currently supported version of Symbiostock and WooCommerce works beautifully.
