I received an email from a customer this morning informing me that the download links aren’t working.
I had her forward me her email, and when I click the link, it initially tried to go here > https://cowgirl-media.com/?download_file=30095&order=wc_order_qSIE8JvoTLwqM&uid=91ad75af6f5601ebf40eb3d5a6041b45a5d78bec4f89408456ad3748aeed947a&key=d8ca0161ffc807f00bd802abbd7e7bf3
but then it gets forwarded here > https://temp.com/30092-30095-jpg
and the screen says Secure connection failed.
I know this has worked in the past, but I changed my URL a few weeks ago, and this is my first purchase since that happened.
Can anyone give me some insight as to how to fix this please?February 26, 2019 at 7:14 pm #34218

Yes, permalinks have been resaved and I’ve changed the URL everywhere that I can think of, both WordPress, WooCommerce and all the other settings, including the processing string.
I am using PHP 7.1 and WC 3.5.4.
Of course it says that it may “experience bugs or quirks”, but it’s worked when I tested it in the past. And I can’t really run old versions of that any longer, especially PHP, because then things just aren’t compatible.
Is there anything else you can tell me? What is https://temp.com? I just don’t understand why it would be forwarding to that URL?February 27, 2019 at 4:16 am #34223
Did you checked in your public_html/.htaccess file to verify that there’s nothing related to a redirection to temp.com domain ?
Did you joined your hosting provider support about that issue ?
Your site looks great – congrats on getting this set up !February 27, 2019 at 5:20 am #34224
Thank you, it’s work in progress 🙂
My site is on an NGNIX server, so no .htaccess file. Guess I’ll have to message them and ask them if they can help me.
Thank you, can we leave this thread open for now please?February 27, 2019 at 6:03 am #34226
So I checked with my hosting company and they looked at the database records.
They found that whatever is generating the download links – which is Symbiostock – is creating the temp URL. Here are links to a couple of screen shots.
This next link shows what you see if you try to edit a record so you can view the entire string:
Why would it be doing this?February 28, 2019 at 6:07 pm #34231
That’s a normal function – you see WooCommerce does not protect and hide the download files so Symbiostock creates a false URL. The issue here is that for some reason when the download is being initiated WooCommerce is not handing the download over to Symbiostock.
I can’t think of any reason why the URL changing would cause this behavior. I am guessing some other setting must be altered, though I’m not sure which one. Perhaps go to WooCommerce settings and see changing the download method for digital downloads may make a difference. Other than that, you might have to submit a support request if you need us to go in and take a custom look. Mind you also that if it’s a bug with Symbiostock, you will not be charged for the support request.March 1, 2019 at 1:53 am #34234
I think I’ve fixed it now. I decided to do a test order, just to be sure. I went to look at the order in the WC orders page, and saw that it was processing, and then I saw the notice at the top of the page to never manually mark the orders complete as that may result in download links that may not work. That is what happened in this case. Her order didn’t complete, because I hadn’t yet changed the PayPal IPN to reflect my new domain name, so I manually marked it complete, not realizing that wouldn’t work.
I also discovered the Cron job I had set up wasn’t running, not sure why, but that’s fixed now also, my test order completed and I received the download link which worked.
Thank you for all your help!
