Do you think this is a new error message for something that’s always happened but previously wasn’t reported to the user?

I think it is new in 3.6 or 3.6.1 – part of the very secure backing up that they now do to avoid any loss of your long post before you have chance to publish it.

Not sure why it is happening so much with my stock site though.

While we are on BlueHost – has anyone else noticed that (on WP 3.6.1) you get the following bar on the top of the edit image page:
Connection lost. Saving has been disabled until you’re reconnected. We’re backing up this post in your browser, just in case.

I’ve been seeing that quite a lot recently and it doesn’t seem to be an issue with my local internet connection.

Its a bit chicken and egg though – if your site is too slow in responding, then some people (potential buyers) will give up. I lost my buyer for some reason part way through his transaction – we had issues with no registration email, and then I suspect something then made him decide not to buy the image he finally put in the shopping cart. He is unresponsive to me, now – a bit like my site!!

Edit – – my test just now was a 22 second home page load time. Many people would have given up at this stage

Yes, my throttling seems to have gone now – so perhaps it was rebuilding the database from the premium package, but that doesn’t explain yours. My homepage is still loading in 12 seconds so that isn’t good. BlueHost support was fast and OK, but I may investigate one of their VPS packages. Trouble is, those are storage limited.

OK – I think I have completed this (although the Symbio package included version 2.6.4).

Maybe a stupid question – do I need to do something to turn on the improved search – does it immediately work on my live site (ie I can search for compound words) or do I need to configure things.

Christine – I signed up with your site as I saw you upgraded to 2.6.5 – I got the full welcome email, but it didn’t arrive for 45 minutes. I recall that being an issue a way back, but I thought we had collectively fixed it.

Something in the latest builds have brought back the occasional delays in issuing emails, perhaps? Or our hosting companies have changed something?

A question! My backup system is running fine, although it is taking a long time to backup the files. Looking at the folders involved, I notice that the wp-content/uploads/symbiostock_rf_content has all the minipics and takes up a fair amount of space. Do I need to back those up, or if I reloaded the core images from my backup and reprocessed them, would I be able to recreate all these minipics?

Thanks Christine – fast and helpful as ever! Funnily enough, I never thought of that! When you say bulk edit of categories, is that using the premium package (which I am about to install) or using an existing function?

Thanks for signing up to my site, btw – did you get the strange little text email? I’m still struggling with that!

I’m currently on a shared $4.99 package with BlueHost, but the speed really annoys me. I’m editing images just now and it takes 12 seconds to open an image for editing, and then 20 – 25 seconds to publish and use the return to get back to the list of images again. Doing that again and again is mind-blowing!

Can anyone give me similar timings for hosting in a more dedicated VPS type of package (the $30+ packages). Is it markedly faster for both admin work and the customer experience?

You have maybe got distracted – Jetpack doesn’t really have much to do with this project. Just ignore that and carry on with the rest of the project.

Further investigation – I am using the Clean Theme and so I activated the main Symbio theme instead of the child – same result. I get a very simple one line text email with the user name and password and the login link.

Were there any changes along the way to give an option of the format of that email?

I just signed up at your page and got the complex welcome email that I remember.

The one I get from my site is just a text one liner that says:

    Username: test2 Password: Xfogha1VISBG http://www.backyardstockphotos.com/wp-login.php

I must have done something wrong!

    Thanks Christine.

I did an experiment – chose an image to purchase, selected the size and the Registration page popped up. I signed up for a new account, and got the email immediately. Unfortunately, the email still has the wp-login URL included, and when I click that and log in via that page, I go to Profile again. Then it is far from clear how to move to the main site unless you are a WordPress expert. I don’t recall this in earlier versions – it is something I have changed?

I was testing the email functions of my site this morning. I’m on WP 3.6.1 and Symbio 2.6.5

I registered as a new customer, and got the email almost immediately, however, the link in the email was to the wp-admin part of the site. Hence the new customer when they use that link and sign in, get taken to their profile page in the admin area.

Is that email link changeable? I can see the email now is much simpler than it used to be, but do we want new customers taken into the admin part of the site?

I have completed my search for an automated backup process for both the database and all major files in my Symbiostock site and have updated my “how to do it” guide on my blog: http://www.backyardsilver.com/2013/09/backing-symbiostock-website/

In a nutshell, I decided to create an off-site backup using Google Drive, which costs me $4.99 a month for 100GB of storage. I liked that idea because it gives me a secure copy of my images, and also would be very fast (relatively) if I had to rebuild the site for any reason. I use UpdraftPlus to backup the database every 12 hours, and also backup the various files and folders that are part of the site (not the images) every week. That is a one off purchase of $15 for the minimum package although I bought a few more features.

Finally, I found that Mover.io, a web based solution that transfers data between all sorts of cloud based storage systems (including FTP) has an incremental file backup option that I use to backup all my images files to Google Drive and then incrementally copy the changes or new images after I upload them. I run that nightly. They have a free allowance of 10GB of transfers, and then you pay $1 per GB for additional capacity. I have 1250 images online so far and that used my free allowance. I bought $10 worth, which will keep me going for several months, I think.
