I woke up this morning and found that I had my first sale last night (a medium size, which in my case is 1600×1200, for $13.99):
It was a great way to start the day!
Thanks to Leo and everyone else that helped out on this wonderful project.
Looking forward to many more sales.

I know large agencies shy away from micro stock because of licensing.
My understanding is the exact opposite – that large agencies actually LOVE microstock (aka royalty free) licensing (because they can buy an image for next to nothing and then use it forever more for any multi-million $ project that they want).

What are the advantages to a buyer to use the Symbiostock Network?
No need to purchase a package of tokens or a subscription, when you only need one or two images.
Exclusive images (about a quarter of my entire portfolio is exclusive and that percentage will only go up over time).
Ability to have images customized directly by the artist (different size. different file format, increased/decreased saturation, etc).
September 8, 2013 at 6:37 pm #1830Please don’t take this the wrong way, but this sort of idea has been discussed ad infinitum for the past 5+ years. (I know because I have been a part of many of the discussions).
The reason that it never got off the ground is because everyone has a different idea of how it should be implemented and nobody wants to spend their own time (for FREE) building something that might never work. All everybody ever does is argue about how it should be done. Who is going to approve images? How do you handle bad keywords? Who gets to the top of the search results? Etc.
In addition, once you build a website, you would have to figure out how to get people to go to your website. That is one of the reasons that I never built my own website. There are around 1 billion web sites on the Internet. How is someone going to find yours? That is one of the brilliant ideas behind Symbiostock – the fact that you are all linking to each other (which raises your SEO scores with the search engines).

I would like to see the image search fixed in the base version so that a customer can search for complex expressions. For example, it would be great if a customer could search on the phrase “jumbo shrimp” and have it show images that have the one keyword “jumbo shrimp” (instead of having to enter the two opposite keywords “jumbo” and “shrimp”).
Didn’t Leo create a work around for this using the Genetics Lab plug in?
Maybe, but (IMO) I think that this should be a part of the base functionality. Otherwise, you will only have people that are willing to spend the money on extra features having this sort of basic functionality, and IMO this should be a part of every Symbiostock site. Personally, I would love to support everybody that is creating features, plugins, themes, etc, but I haven’t sold one image yet (which is very depressing) and I have spent a LOT of time (and some money) getting my website going. IMHO, there isn’t anything that is more basic to a stock webs site than searching for images.

What about the symbiostock_ipn and the symbiostock_network folders? Not needed?
Those folders are required for Symbiostock to function properly, so they should be backed up.
Both folders could probably be rebuilt if needed, but it is easier to just back them up.
The symbiostock_network folder contains the Symbiocard CSV files.
The symbiostock_ipn only contains two PHP files for PayPal integration.

September 8, 2013 at 10:43 am #1397September 8, 2013 at 10:38 am #1322My website is called ShazamImages.com.
It offers a wide variety of images, including 3D CGI, illustrations, fractal art, and photography.
I have been involved in photography, off and on, for about 30 years, but in the past 15 years have gotten more serious about it. I joined stock photography in 2006. At first, it was very exciting, but over the years I have gotten saddened and upset by all of the changes that have occurred at the agencies. I am finally excited about photography again.
I am located in North Carolina, USA.
