WordPress Uploads Folder Protection

Hello,
Does Symbiostock store its”Products” in the WordPress/Wp-Content/Uploads folders?

I have found examples of other sites “stealing” images from my Uploads folders and hotlinking to them too.

1) Is it safe to delete all files from Wp-Content/Uploads folders, or will this basically remove all the “products” from Synbiostock?
2) What is the best way to lock down the Uploads folders to prevent hotlinking and content theft without affecting correctly purchased downloads from Symbiostock on my website?
