Hi All,  I had to close my Symbiostock (legacy) site down when the EU vat rules changed and then life got in the way and I got somewhat sidetracked.  However, I was wondering if any solution to the VAT issue and selling to and within Europe has been created ?   I did a search of the forums and there were thousands of hits but none seemed to mention this.

If so I would love to be able to revive my site and bring it up to date and also wonder if there is an “easy” way of doing this or do I start from scratch?

    Hi Christine, welcome!

    1. The business side of Symbiostock is completely handled by WooCommerce. So yes, I believe WC has everything in place to be operated in most (if not all) countries.

    2. You can migrate your old Symbiostock to the new plugin version. It’s not a one-click-process but you could have the new version running within a day or two. http://www.symbiostock.org/docs/migrating-from-legacy-symbiostock/

Hi Andre, thanks for your reply.

Having spent the last few days trying to get things up and running again (and having to delete the whole of my legacy site in the process) I have been totally frustrated by my inability to apply pricing to my images – just how do you do this, I have tried searching forums and documentation but am obviously using the wrong search terms.   Plus, if I ever do get it working I have a few more questions

How do I add prices, it must be possible as others seem to have managed it 🙂

Will I be able to set it to sterling ?

Can you sell physical prints and downloads on the same listing

I assume you have installed WooCommerce and the symbiostock plugins, and have migrated (or uploaded) images?

For currency go to WooCommerce -> Settings -> General -> Currency and choose “Pounds Sterling” from the dropdown.

Prices are handled by licenses. Symbiostock -> Licenses
Create a new or modify an existing one that applies to the size you want to offer. Set a price for that size. Then update the pricing to the products (images) you’d like to apply it to (this may take a while depending on the amount of images).

At least I got something right as I did the currency in WooCommerce 🙂

I only have one product so far, as I am not going to do more unless/until I get that to show up correctly.  There were no existing licences.  I have obviously left it too long since I last worked on this as it used to seem simple.

    Hi Christine

The best thing is to forget all you knew about the old Symbiostock – this is nothing like that!

I created four licenses for my site, for small, medium, large and full size. In each license you can add the price. When you upload media, the licenses automatically get added to it and the system is able to create those various sizes ready for download when someone buys it.

The correct version of WooCommerce is 2.5.5

I did write about my efforts to create my site:

Hi Christine – make sure you have Symbiostock Pro installed – you get it from the shop page at the top here.

Once that’s installed, along with all other dependencies, you should have default licenses under Symbiostock > Licenses. Please confirm whether you do or not. If not, then you will have to create a new license there, set a price, and ensure it applies to raster images. That is all on the license edit page.

Then upload a new image and it should auto apply. If you want it to apply to the images you already have in place, you have to check ‘Update prices’ and ‘Update licenses’ on the license edit page and the processor will then sync the license to the appropriate media.

The initial setup may be a little complex but once it’s running it’s very easy.

    Hi, thanks for replies.

Yes, I installed Lite and Pro and have the correct WooCommerce and it is so long since I used the old Symbiostock and done so many things in the meantime I had probably forgotten most of it anyway.

No, there were no licences pre installed

I had not clicked the raster option which I have now done and clicked on the update prices and update licences option (and removed the £ from the price and tried it all again)

It took me quite a while to realise that they do not automatically go from being uploaded to showing in the media section, and that you have to click the run now button.

I am finding the initial setup is more than a little complex, not sure if I am ever going to reach the easy running stage at the rate I am going   I have tried a couple more images, am wondering if it is beyond the life support stage and need a seance to revive it 🙂

The processor is not supposed to be run manually repeatedly – add it to your control panel’s cron job area. If you are using cPanel this is quite easy. Let the processor do its thing in the background.

So are the licenses now applying?

Okay, think I have done that – I assume the “curl silent etc” is the command line I add to the cron job thingy in C panel?

They were not when I tried last night.  Have deleted all images and uploaded one to see what happens when it appears

Yes – now that the processor is running, everything should smoothly work. Your images should be auto added and licenses auto applied.

Thanks Robin – I now have the grand total of 1 image listed !!   (but I did get 10 new designs created, printed, photographed, edited and listed on my nail art site, Etsy and Ebay today so that was quite a good days work)
