I’ve been completely out of the loop for a while now, trying to focus on producing some content instead of fiddling with my Symbiostock site.

I see that many people are still developing/suggesting more awesome feaures and I regularly get email notifications of other members updating to new (beta?) versions.

As I was running into upgrading issues the last time I tried, I was wondering how stable the latest version is and if there is a tutorial or walkthrough for Symbiostockers that are still running on 2.6.5 or older?

During the update last time that caused some funky back-end issues (at least for me) I noticed that the newer versions now require certain plugins etc. to be fully functional. At the time I was not aware of that and therefore ran into multiple issues.

So that’s why I’m asking if there is a checklist or something that one could use who wants to prepare for an upgrade from 2.6.5 to one of the latest versions.

    Thanks in advance.

Latest version is 2.9.4 – see thread headed something like – Important Update 2.9.0 as this gives some instructions. The newer versions do not NEED the plug-ins they work without them, most are recommended but the meta one is required for some of the search information that Cascoly collects I think.

You do need to be prepared to spend some time sorting out navigation bars/menus when you upgrade but if you are able to set up a test site, maybe on a subdomain and experiment there so you can get the customise settings how you want them then that will help.

It’s 2.9.4 and it’s not beta. Very stable on my site. Upgrading was a bit tough for me as I was using Clean Theme and decided to switch to Dragonfly because Clean Theme is no longer being updated.

If you are using Clean Theme and want to stick with it, Leo can get you a version with some fixes to make it work with 2.9.x

The instructions in this thread still apply, even though it was written for 2.9.0

Thanks to you two. I’m just using a custom CSS file that I wrote myself and nothing else.

I have no problem re-doing the menues.

The last time, not using the meta plugin, my back-end completely turned white. Only because I was still logged on as admin I was able to navigate through the settings (hitting the back button) but other users (like Leo who also has an admin account) couldn’t even log on.

This experience scared me a lot. I do have a second Symbiostock site which is pretty much dead anyways, so I can use that one as a test site.

I just feel like that so many updates and new features have been implemented that I’m completely out of the loop in regards to the capabilities. I feel like an old fart who looks at a CD and says -What the heck is that?

I did not load the Meta plugin and it has stopped asking me for it now so 2.9.4 will run without it

I use a custom CSS file as well. I set up the customise options then put in a clean Child theme and gradually went though my old child theme css and transferred bits as I needed them and added new sections to get it how I wanted it

The latest version is really stable. There hasn’t been an update for a while now, and aside from features and improvements, nobody seems to be asking for much. So its probably safe now.

Also that white screen that traumatized you was a legitimate bug – not just you.

Really? So if I try it again now, I shouldn’t experience this issue anymore?
