    Hi Cathy

I did my own search for Lonesome bengal cat, and all my images are properly annotated. There must be somewhere in your site where you still have Leo’s name. I hope it is not in each image!

I can’t recall ever having that issue and so I’m not sure where to start. When you download a full size copy of an image and look at the metadata, does that show Leo’s name?

    Hi Cathy

It looks as if Leo’s name appears on those images that have (had) the old watermark. If they show up in the grid with a cross and the watermark in the centre the Leo’s name shows up although if you click on the image it has the new watermark

Some of these have the X and centre watermark, if I click on them they show Leo, then if I refresh they show the new watermark and no Leo, I marked the ones it shows best on so it may be just a caching problem?

I was just checking my site to see how Google was doing with the image indexing and was intrigued/bothered to see that where the watermarked previews were expanded (where you see the Visit Page / Visit Image buttons) some of them say “by Ann Snover” – the others have no credit at all.

I have nothing anywhere that shows my name like that – my first name is Jo Ann, with a space and perhaps there’s some brain dead parsing software that is taking the last two words of a name to display.

I have no clue how I would do anything about this – two out of three words is better than you being Leo, but still! The only other good news is that a search for Ann Snover brings up a lot of my pictures and pages, so perhaps people will find their way to me…

We’re getting the same shortening on Google Images. Our copyright name is ‘Colin and Linda McKie’ but Google shows just ‘by Linda McKie’ The embedded copyright is correct.

ETA: A Google Image search on”Colin and Linda McKie” shows nothing directly from PictureMojo.

Mine does not show anything in the “by” line

Cathy, an excerpt from Google for one of your images – not sure if it will help anyone track it down but posting anyway

Thumbnails – I would not worry too much about these, if someone has done a search and Google picked that up then all sorts of images can appear on a page.

    No answer, but a question.

What extra plug-ins are you using?

Leo’s site map? The premium plug in?

    Here’s a possible clue…

I was looking back at a blog I moderated with a couple of admins about 3 years ago. One of the guest bloggers had sent his blog post to one of the admins to upload and it has his blog post with “by Mary Lou” as the byline with the Google picture. Presumably Google picked it up that way since she uploaded it.

Was Leo logged in as an admin on your site to resolve any problems and did he run a reprocess? Perhaps it picked up his name? Maybe if you go to user settings, change him to the “does not have a role with this site” option then go to the images in question, open to Edit, make a minor change like clicking then un-clicking a category and save the change. Reprocess the public images then check firebug to see if that gets rid of his name and picks up yours instead.

Like Jo Ann, I have some on Google with a name attribute and some without anything. I’m not sure why it’s pulling info that way. Perhaps it was a change along the way with one of the recent versions and the time Google indexes them.

I have one image that Google has indexed as the with the image number and slug as the title but when I click on it I am taken to a different image. I also have several that are indexing images to a sitemap and when I click on those I get a long text list from the site map.

Karen has made a very logical suggestion and might well have the answer.

If something has changed it would also explain why I do not have any by-line as my images have gone up (again) over the last few weeks and been reprocessed a couple of times in the last week as I have moved domains and tried to get imagick working again

Which is more important – getting rid of Leo’s name that few people will see or register and letting it disappear over time or re-submitting your sitemaps and having to wait for them to be re-done – does it have to start from scratch again if you do that?

okay, all I was thinking was that they might not be so visible to customers if you redo the site-maps – I do not know.

I can understand the frustration of this.

I tried to do some research on this, using the pomegranate example. I searched all through the source of the page from your site that Google are indexing – no mention of Leo on that page – and many references to Author being your site. I then looked at one of my own images that properly shows me as the “by…” on Google Images. Next step was to look at my images being found by Google Images from the various stock sites – not one of those shows a “by…” line. That leads me to believe that the author name is not coming from the image itself. If we assume that the images from the stock sites (at least some of them) will still contain the metadata I out into the image, then you would have expected Google to display it.

So, I think that means that Google are making that link to Leo’s name from somewhere else than the image itself.

While you are asking the google guy, if it is a public forum don’t forget to mention what you are selling on your site 😀
