By the way, I am not frustrated with you guys, I appreciate all the interaction. Its just that I dont know what the issue is with the child theme and I dont know how else to explain it.October 19, 2013 at 12:52 pm #4013
http://tulip.kerioak.com/image/intimidating-woman/?r=tulip.kerioak.com I have set this image up with a RM basic and other RM prices, can you explain what your problem is to see if we can make each other understand ( I have not edited the EULA’s would need to add wording if real.)
Yes, I have used the child them to get the metamorphis version how I want it – the same child theme I have been using from the beginning just with different contents.
If you set your child theme up you will have to (possibly) redo your menus and definitely edit the customize fields to match how they are at the moment without a child theme. For the content-image though you could possibly just install it without a child theme but ensure you have a backup version available of the original to replace it with if it goes wrong

I’m very interested in licensing RM as well for some images. Unfortunately the licensing setup as it now stands doesn’t accommodate this very well. Even though I don’t mention the terms RM or RF on my site I am licensing images as a one-time use which is effectively RM. For multiple uses the client would have to contact me for pricing. Not ideal.
Instead I’d like to see a very easy to use and understand pricing calculator. Something like the one Picturengine is using would be good (http://www.picturengine.com/app/stock_photo_detail/Puppets_in_Market/image-Mul0123312998.html). I think this setup and pricing came from the Plus coalition. On the backend the calculator contains basic pricing which the contributor can adjust by selecting +/- a certain percentage to move prices up or down from the standard.
A huge plus side to this is that it would open up the symbiostock network to a large pool of talented photographers who wouldn’t participate without RM pricing.
This is the right way to do it. Certainly needed and better than sending someone off to another site where we would have to split the commissions. I wonder if someone can figure out how to do it as a paid plug in or upgrade?October 19, 2013 at 1:10 pm #4052

That’s why I said different base price for different types. Royalty Free is not upgradable to Rights Managed. Right’s Managed, however, can be different types as you said you have 4 already. If you have four separate RMs then you must apply the appropriate licence to image as the default price or make it an upgrade option, depending on what you need. I’ll use my site as a current example.
At the moment I have a standard licence which is similar but not as free as Royalty Free. This is set to a price let’s say $15. So when I upload the file I set the price at $15 but the actual standard licence actually has $0 in the prices. Next the buyer can choose the extended licence which tacks on another (using random number here) $100. So by default it is using the standard price of $15. That is the lowest price available even if I tick no licence options. If I tick Extended the price jumps from $15 to $115. If I tick the standard licence again the system calculates $15 (base price) + $0 (standard price).
Now similarly you can do the same for RM. Set base price of let’s say $50 on your upload details (or change it after the fact) + whatever other optional RMs you may have.
So let’s say that you want NONE of the RMs to be upgraded or downgraded. You STILL set up your base price (i.e. the price you want it to cost) but you add your $o price into the licences as an upgrade just so that it shows up and people know what kind of license that particular file is sold under.
This is the limitation of the current system. Either you have upgrades to the pricing systems or you have just one licence that you list but it is still like an upgrade although it has $0 upgrade values.
Oh and for anyone else reading you MUST enter the values of more than Zero as Something Point Something. If you just add in 5 in the slot it will take the value as being $0.05 so enter $0.50 for half a dollar.
Let me explain the Child theme like this… When first set up your new site, the Child Theme is empty. There is nothing in it really as it is like a blank overlay. Think of the Child Theme as the top most layer. It takes precedent over everything beneath it. With that in mind, any changes you make in your Child Theme will overrule the relevant section in the SymbioStock theme.
This child theme will ALWAYS overrule and version of SymbioStock. In time there may be changes to SymbioStock that may require that you make changes in the Child Theme so that it is NOT passing on the wrong info and overwriting the correct code of the new version. This, however, is an exception to the rule and not every time you upgrade.
Let me expand it further. If you set the site’s background colour (in your Child Theme) to BLACK and Leo’s theme is set to white. Your site WILL ALWAYS have a Black background end of discussion. The problem then is you also need to specify a light text or Leo’s Black font will be layered on a Black background.
This is a very simplistic explanation to how the Child Theme works but I do hope that people begin to understand the principle. I also speak under correction and appreciate people pointing out any mistakes.
Before anyone corrects me… Yes, I know that the Child Theme will NOT overwrite EVERYTHING in the main theme. That is there to protect people from themselves 😀

I understand all of that, but I can download the image without ANY licence attached to it. And that default download has the standard licence. Or I am missing something completely or you are not understanding my explanation. And frankly for now I am done discussing this as its frustrating the hell out of me.October 19, 2013 at 2:25 pm #4017
I tried to register and failed too 🙂
After clicking only on size (all licenses were unselected), image landed in cart with “default license”. After deleting image from cart and adding it again with RM Basic, this license remains selected all the time, when I am logged in, even when image is deleted from cart. Just log in as Guest, refresh page and RM Basic is selected 🙂
Then I tried another image. Again, image could be added to cart withount selecting license, but once license was selected, it remains selected after deleting image from cart.
Now I cannot log in even as a Guest, because “your IP was blocked” 🙂October 19, 2013 at 2:27 pm #4056
Jo, please post a link to a RM image on your site. THanks.October 19, 2013 at 2:27 pm #4018
It has also just dawned on me that the semantics of the words maybe confusing people. A “Child” Theme actually modifies how the “Parent” Theme works which is opposite to Human Child/Parent relationships.
A HUMAN parent tells a Child what to do. With a Child Theme here on SymbioStock it overrules the Parent like an unruly child LOL! It says NO! I want it MY way!

Sorry Ron I haven’t uploaded any of my RM files yet but I won’t have any foreseeable upgrades to it. I would rather handle special licences in person. So my files would just have one RM licence and the rest is a “Talk to me and tell me what you need it for” type of thing.

Ok, I’ve uploaded an image and made it private so you should be able to see it but it probably won’t show up on a buyers screen… I think 🙂
Edit: I made it password protected but I don’t quite understand. Private made it not viewable and under password protected it still show LOL! Password is just “private”.
Ron, once you’ve seen it please let me know so I can hide it. Looks silly to have a file like that on my site. Eventually I’ll get to sorting out the RM files…October 19, 2013 at 3:14 pm #4021
Licences – I have thought of a way around it
(I only have one on my site, did not set up an RM so it will always show the default).
However IF we create a licence page and that page links to all the relevant licences on other pages do you think that would work. It would mean two clicks for anyone purchasing – one link to main licence page and then a second click to the specific one but unless Leo or someone does lots of coding it is a workarouund.
