Registering – Problem?

I just registered a test account on my own site to try and work out a major problem and found that you choose a password when you register but you still get sent a random one as well

Two questions:

1. Have you tried to create an account with username different than the password? Who knows. :0)

2. Have your tried to rename your plug-in folder to plug-in.old to check if it is some plug-in issue? Maybe rename it and create a new folder plug-in and move each plug-in once a time to test and find out which one may be causing the issue.

Well, just a suggestion to try to figure it out. ;0)

No, but I have been trying to find someone else’s site that I am not registered on to see if the same thing happens.

I have a much bigger problem ( Extended licence prices going blank) that I am trying to find a solution for at the moment though and I have turned off all plugins for that

Just to inform, I have tested for you in my SYM site and created an user as “atest” and with the password as it too, and it worked ok. I have received the email as username/password as “atest” instead of “encrypted” password. Haven’t you added some plug-in to encrypt or generate an automatic password for new users?

Regarding EL I can’t help you yet, because I have not set it yet on my SYM back-end.

I just registered for your site with the same test password, and I did also receive an email with a different, random password. Just FYI.

Somebody else had this problem – maybe Cathy’s Life? – and no, it isn’t expected that you get a second e-mail with a random password. I don’t recall what the problem was though and search isn’t finding the thread (it may have been in that missing 6 weeks).

It was actually my site that had the same problem.

I think it was caused by my not following the exact instructions when the last big upgrade happened.

From what I remember there was a plug in that should have been removed and then re-added after the upgrade. I meant to try to follow the steps when the next upgrade appeared but I can’t find that thread anymore!

I did email Leo to see if he could help, but I haven’t had a reply so far. If you do find a solution I would be very keen to know!

Hello,

Your right — the plugin that has to be removed is the emails/notifications. The way you do that is you deactivate the theme and them delete the plugin. Upon reactivation the email plugin will reinstall and if I’m not mistaken that should take care of it.

Thanks Leo, that seems to have fixed it, although the new registration page still says “a password will be emailed to you”.

Can I also just ask a really stupid question, when I look at my themes the only one active is the child theme CleanTheme 2, and the actual Symbiostock theme shows as inactive. My site is working perfectly, but I’m just confused as I thought a child theme had to have a parent theme in order to work?

The child theme will be the one that looks active if you activate it after you have the parent theme activated. 🙂

Today I noticed that my site also has this problem with the random password email.

Followed the procedure Leo described but no luck, I don’t receive the SymbioStock customer welcome email.
Does anyone know what else I can try?

It did not work for me, my customers also get the random password, not the one they have chosen but I put a note in the email they receive when registering

If you did not get the email have you reactivated the SYMBIOSTOCK – Emails and Notifications plugin

If not go to
Appearance
Install Plug-ins
and install the SYMBIOSTOCK – Emails and Notifications

Then you can check whether it is installed in the Plug-Ins area
