In an effort to keep Christine’s post clean I am starting this one. Please use this thread for discussion and allow her thread to stay uncorrupted.

I think we need a guinea pig so to speak. Someone who knows nothing. This person should be taken step by step through the process by someone who knows what they are doing. The tester should do it themselves but the experienced person should be available to answer questions. This will expose all of those “givens” that are being overlooked by the people with enough knowledge to actually write a tutorial. This process should start with domain registration and should go all the way through testing an actual sale.

I spent a lot of time figuring out very simple things for myself. I must admit at times it was very frustrating. If I hadn’t truly believed in the value of this I might have given up. All because I didn’t understand some very simple and basic items. After the fact they seemed silly and very easy but at the time they were debilitating and dramatically slowed progress.

It’s the simple things that are causing the newbies problems because they are so obvious no one has bothered to address them.
A bit like teaching someone to read the word “cat” but forgetting to tell them what the letter “c” sounds like.

That was my personal experience and I am sure I am not the only one.

Thanks for starting a new thread, I did not think of that 🙂 It is very much a draft and based on the one I did that Leo put in the help pages but that needs a lot more details

Great idea. I’m finding that, as a clueless person, I’m running into frustrations. And I was hoping to write scintillating copy telling newbies like myself how simple the whole process is.

I’m willing to be the guinea pig if someone is willing to be the scientist.

I would love to see more tutorials up as well. I truly believe that this can work, but the work involved in setting things up (for those not familiar with setting up a website, hosting, etc) is a definite roadblock.

I’ve definitely found the tutorials on the SY site to be extremely helpful, I only with the guides were complete. As I am at a standstill when it comes to setting up PP. Having to search through multiple threads on here as well as on the Microstock forum has made it a slow and rocky road.

Hopefully the guides get put up soon and those of us who are not computer savvy can get the ball rolling much quicker.

I have just added PP to the draft tutorial, it is currently in blue – thought it might make things easier if I start putting different sections in different colours, might save a lot of scrolling up and down to find things ?
