Throughout the development process, I’ve learned a lot about WordPress. It is a fantastic blog-oriented infrastructure, and as a result of its minimal footprint, has been able to expand into all sorts of things – WooCommerce and Symbiostock included.

That being said, the base WordPress search has quite a few limitations. First of all, it does not search tags/keywords by default. This is a big limitation, especially in our business! But more importantly, and this is a general database issue, if you do in fact search tags, you’re going to start getting 1-2 second delays, especially if you have thousands of products. This is simply because WordPress is not meant to search tags, and certainly not for thousands of products.

Luckily, as Symbiostock is already so large in scope, I am able to implement a search infrastructure that will assist the built in search without too much hassle. All you will have to do is upgrade to the newest version, and your searches will go from 1.4 seconds to 0.2 seconds.

Additionally, it will automatically search tags, a missing feature in WordPress and WooCommerce (but available at a cost, yet still with that 1-2 second delay)

Once it is released, just upgrade your install through the plugin page. PLUS users need not worry – you get all the cool stuff first.

The Symbiostock improved search is now enabled. Along with this are a number of speed increases on the processor.

    The improved search:

    • Searches tags as well as the rest of the content
    • Performs this search in about 0.2 seconds vs the 1.4 seconds 3rd party plugins provide (85% speed increase!)

This will be released with the next version of Symbiostock. It is live on PLUS.
