    Great piece! I like it.

I earmark the link to use when I upgrade to the “final” version and overhaul my site. Coming soon, I hope…

I am really curious. However, I don’t know when I will upgrade from 2.6.5. This new version will surely break the heavy css-tweaking I’ve done on my site. So I’ll need to find a time window to deal with it. Hope I can do it soon…

Yes, developing software can be tricky. Although I’d have liked PE explain their troubles here or at msg I am still open to give them a try. However, I am more reluctant making financial commitments after what (not) happened.

How does your backend look? Have all your menu configurations disappeared there as well?

If yes, it’d mean that that info gets somehow lost from your WP database where it should be stored. This in turn means that either your database is corrupted or that some weird process deletes/disables that info in your WP database.

Maybe you can revert to a database backup from before this started to happen and see what happens. Obviously, you would loose your work done on your site since then, though.

Maybe just peeking into your current database and comparing relevant tables with a backup version gives some clues, IF you feel comfortable doing that.

    I am just brain-storming here …

Understandable. I respond less and less to threads there these days as it gets pretty nasty pretty quick sometimes.

As for sales, how about mountains of mountain-like sales? 😉

    +1000 – I’d love those! 😉

Christine – I signed up with your site as I saw you upgraded to 2.6.5 – I got the full welcome email, but it didn’t arrive for 45 minutes. I recall that being an issue a way back, but I thought we had collectively fixed it.

Something in the latest builds have brought back the occasional delays in issuing emails, perhaps? Or our hosting companies have changed something?

    Steve

I noticed the same issue. 9/10 times there’s no problem then an e-mail gets delayed by an hour or so. I am not sure though if it’s just version 2.6.5 or if earlier versions still fancied this problem. Maybe it was me just not experiencing it by chance. Who knows?

    I just visited your site:
The slide show is there but your menu is gone (except for home).

I am sorry for your troubles and hope you get it all sorted out and fixed soon.

    http://www.imagoborealis.com
Tested from Amsterdam, Netherlands on September 17 at 19:57:19

    Page size: 498.1kB
    Load time: 4.83s
    Requests: 54
    Perf. grade: 79/100

Your website is faster than 32% of all tested websites

That’s not great but very reasonable considering I am on Bluehost shared hosting.

On a side-note: I haven’t installed the WP Super-Cache plugin, yet. I’ll repeat this speed test after I’ve come around to do so. Curious about the difference it will/won’t make…

Slow down? Yes, very welcomed move, Leo!
That’d give me a chance to catch up. I haven’t even found time to thoroughly check out your premium plugin I bought a week ago. I need to tackle the new license options and hope the batch editor will allow for the changes/additions in an easy fashion. My site in general needs some polishing. All that while I try to keep up uploading. Pfeeh! – And now there is that 2.6.7 version already that sparks my curiosity… 😀

I think Symbiostock is on a good track even if not everyone in the network or on the fence might agree with slow and steady.

    Great work, Leo!

I think we need 50 people with sales above 0 for the results to show. That might be a bit tough right now but when the results do show I am pretty sure that self hosted will be somewhere in the middle tier. That will definitely raise some eyebrows and create some heated discussions.

    Ok, thanks. That explains it.

I am looking forward to this happening. If that number of 50 is correct we should see “self hosted” take off before year’s end (Just my guess). And yes, it will create some buzz for sure. 🙂

    Welcome.

Most of us have come to Symbiostock after a while with the agencies (in my case since September 2004). There’s a ton wrong with them (why are we here after all) but I would say that it was the most amazing training ground for me – I was new to stock photography when I started with iStockphoto in 2004

Rejections suck, but you learn a lot from them at the beginning. Keywording is another big skill to learn, and I’m a ton better at it than I was at the beginning.

You might consider getting accepted at one or two agencies just to get a feel for what their standards for acceptance are (in terms of technical quality in almost all cases and in the case of Shutterstock from their view of what has commercial value). It is a big learning curve but it might help you in getting your own site to appeal to image buyers in the long run

    +1

I think this is very good advise!

    For starters check out http://www.symbioguides.com

Cost beside your domain registration/hosting? Zilch! Just your time and work. Of course, there are paid WP and Symbiostock plugins you might want but they are not required…

    Edit: Mark beat me 😎

I’ve missed a week or so of updates on MSG and so I feel like I am way behind again.

Having got my backup routines sorted, I’m now about to upgrade to WP3.6, get the latest theme and also get the paid premium plugin.

In which order should I do that, and what are the latest and greatest releases?

    Steve

I have just done the same thing in the order you listed (WP3.6, SYS 2.6.5, Premium Plugin 1.1.9). I had no issues at all. I couldn’t believe how smooth the upgrade went. It took just minutes and my site was up again.

That said, however, I haven’t got around yet trying all the new bells and whistles.

Since sales is what we are all hoping for, this could be the thread for reporting those. Be as specific as you like, but even just hearing ” I sold three images” today would be encouraging too.

To date, i have sold one image.

    😎 Awesome! – Congrats 😎
