    Hi All,

I have just been playing around with different tools and was just wondering what y’all think on this heavily stylized image.

    Chipmunk

    Thanks

Tim, this is exactly the kind of photography I do. Looks like a beautiful image to me… in its “natural” state. So, I’m wondering why you felt the need to play with it in this way?

I do have the “natural” image on my site but took this one and tried to do something “artsy” with it. For me I found it a difficult image to make something artsy out of. I was just playing around at trying to make it look painted. I just thought the outcome looked interesting. I kind of liked it as a manipulated image.

I do not consider myself a real creative person but in just taking images like this to manipulate I tend to learn a lot about the tools I use.

I do a lot of post processing, but honestly, I don’t care for the treatment you gave the chipmunk. It just “shouts” Photoshop filters the minute you look at it, IMO.

It’s a bit like with HDR – using it to extend the dynamic range of the camera to more closely match our eyes produces spectacular results, but going overboard with super-saturated colors and extreme contrast just takes away from the scene rather than adding to it.

I think playing around with various treatments for images is a really good way to figure out what you like and don’t, but I wouldn’t put that one on sale – keep it for your experiments folder 🙂

I think you’re limiting potential sales.
Every kid can apply heavy filtering or turn a photograph into a painting these days.
I’d prefer to keep it high quality “real” and let the buyer decide how to treat it.

Yea, this was one of those pictures I chose to just try stuff on to see how different tools altered the image. I can then start seeing images and automatically know what might enhance an image or not.

    Thanks for everyone’s input 🙂

You never know someone might want a stylised image, not likely but possible . If you want to put it on line why not do what I have done with this image so a licensee would know what to expect http://kerioakimaging.com/image/painting-solo-polo/

    Good idea on images such as these. I just joined Fine Art America and was thinking about putting images such as these on there just as a test and see what happens. There are a couple images I have on my Symbiostock site that I have on my FAA site and put a link in the description such as this image;

I like it. Whatever you’ve done has made it more painterly and given it a bit of a 3D effect which makes everything pop.

I also like it a lot. But I’m a sucker for cute animals.

Thanks All. Like you say, not sure if there is any demand for stuff like this but won’t hurt to have an artistic category and see what happens. Who knows!!! 🙂

I have been hammering away at my Symbiostock site and just decided to take a break and play with this stuff the last couple of days and just have fun. I need the break.
