No, I don’t think you are selfish and have not seen anyone insinuate it, last time I looked you were trying to add an 11th link, but I do wonder if you are making the best of the network. What happens if everyone just goes with the global search, I wonder if the network would work as well?

At the moment you get a few lines of the global search on your site, I did a search for chips (forgetting that Americans call chips-fries and crisps-chips 🙂 ) so reverted to food. You have 200 odd food images ( if you get Leo’s genetics lab plugin you can have up to 96 images per page) so people can see 24 of yours and and a few pages of global as there are over 10,000 results. If they could see lots of lines of results on your page I wonder if they might be more likely to stay and look at your site rather than bounce off to where there are over 10,000 ?

I want to keep people on my site as well so am making as much use of the categories as I can so hopefully they will use those rather than the search box . I am hoping that now I actually have images on my site again I will get some sales as for nearly the whole of August it was dead – possibly because I only had the few images I put up last month!

As far as I am concerned it is, I think only one person has asked me in the past. It means their pictures will come up on your site so you get to choose whose images/keywording/pricing/etc you like

I do think the last sentence is a little unfair – “the friends of friends are added with no choice”. Ever since the promoted keywords were introduced – around the end of May ( Leo wrote on MSG – Meanwhile that little blog post will tell you how helpful your promoted keywords will be for you, in extending your promotion reach. Soon I’ll have your directories fetching stuff many hops away, but I’m building it up slowly and surely to avoid problems. ) we have had the potential for more than ten results to appear .

I have always had the impression that the main network would be a spreading organism, not just a closed network (unless that is what people choose then they can link to each other with no outsiders).

To me the whole idea of the network is that you link to others to help them and others link to you to help you – everyone mutually benefiting to give clients as much choice as possible. Of course we all really want them to just stay on our own sites but individually we do not have the range of images required.

I have nine others in my network plus AJT’s global search and with those 9 I am currently linked to 79 out of the 106 in total, (found this via the Marketing page in Symbostock bee). Looking at Cascoly’s list the other day some people have 0 and others have 10 with everything in between – I wonder if everyone had ten if we would ALL be linked to every site currently in the network ?
